Casablanca, which was amazing, and Citizen Kane, which was just ever so slightly amazing-er.

My daughter who's a Junior in college is taking a journalism class this semester, called Intro to Cinema. They watched Citizen Kane on Thursday! How ironic that you should mention that movie......

It really was a landmark, wasn't it? The cinematography is well ahead of its time; most films today don't have that kind of style. The way it was told was very unique for its time as well. Stories generally followed a few of several styles back then; Kane dared to be different. Thank god Wells was only in his twenties; a movie like that would never be produced by a more experienced director.

Incidentally, Wells comes from the same town as my dad. Go figure.

I watched Ghost Rider last night. It wasnt in my genre, but it looked good. The storyline was a bit weak and the special effects were a bit odd. It would make for a good roller coaster :P. Overall 7/10.

I rented Michael Moore's "Sicko" a while ago.

You have to see this movie. It is incredible. Even if you hate Michael Moore, see it. 10/10

Best documentary I've ever seen.

:uarrow: Unfortunately, that movie ended up as one I had no time to see. I might rent it soon.

Shamelessly resurrecting one of my own old topics....LOL!!!

Our most recent rental:

I Am Legend. Yikes - we had to fast forward through the last half. This movie was not what I expected, at all. My family is back to not trusting me to rent movies - again! The genre movie I have to find is comedy, not horror, not chick flick, but comedy (to please all in my family....ugh!)

Out of 5 stars, I'd give this a 2. If you like dark movies, with very little hope.

I saw Juno on the shelf, near I Am Legend. Should have rented it!

Anyone rent a good movie lately (or watch on pay per view)? If so, please feel to recommend it or more. The ones you see on the new release wall at Blockbuster, for example.

Anyone know if the Bucket List is good? We're hoping to watch it later tonight.

Our most recent rental was Vantage Point. Talk about action....it never stopped. Good movie. There was a twist to the storyline I didn't see coming.....

I didn't get to see all of The Bucket List, but from what I saw, it was... okay. Not jumping out of my chair, but okay.

I heard Juno wasn't the comedy everyone said it was. My friend said it was a mediocre comedy that ended up being rather dumb.

Vantage Point looks boring, I'm sorry.

The Bucket List was excellent in my opinion, it had me laughing then crying and then in the middle of tears, laughing again. I would highly recommend it!

We loved the Bucket List! I'd recommend it.

Cyclone - Vantage Point was good, but kept going back with flashbacks to give you another character's perspective, since the Pres. of the US gets shot. After abut 5 rewinds, I grew tired of this format. I just wanted the story to move forward, from when he was shot. Very frustrating. Dennis Quaid was superb in it. I wouldn't suggest viewers skip it, just know that it's fast paced action. Start to finish.

I think I'm ready to take a break from movie watching for now......3 in the past 6 or so days......that's a lot. After we finished the Bucket List, hubby said - well, even though both characters eventually die, I like it (unlike I Am Legend, that movie will go down as the type to avoid from now on!).

We finally rented Juno. Loved it! Out of 5 stars, we'd rate it a 5.

We're always behind the times though......I wish I had seen this movie before the rest of the world did. I remember Rolling Stone Magazine giving it a high rating and it was airing at a small, older indie movie theater. I should have seen it then (before it hit the big screen and everyone was talking about it). Still, I can now say I finally saw it.....

Cute ending (the note in the nursery, framed) too.

Knew the adoptive dad wasn't as into it all as his wife was. When asked why she wanted to adopt, she glowed and came alive with her answer. He paused and then mentioned little league, soccer coaching, etc. You kinda knew then and there, there'd be trouble......

I think EVERYONE should watch that movie. I know it's sad to watch and even I myself am not a fan of tear-jerkers, but it sends a really good message and that's to live everyday of your life to the fullest because you never know when it's going to end. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman did an amazing job.

I agree, it's a good movie Jason. Makes you appreciate living and the small things in life.

Our most recent rental - Numb (starring Matthew Perry). It's just a indie type film, that's serious, funny at times movie about a single writer trying to find mental help for "depersonalization". Reminded of Garden State at times. I would recommend it.

As always, Matthew Perry takes you into another fictional character for several hours and you forget you usually think of him as Chandler Bing, from his 10 year role on Friends. We enjoyed his performance in The Ron Clark Story too (another excellent film if you haven't seen it).

One more recent movie - Once. We ended up buying it used at Blockbuster for 10 bucks.......we keep watching it, over and over.

Highly recommend this quirky, endearing musical type movie.

Good Saturday morning everyone!

Since it's January and cold outside, many of us are probably renting more movies. If so, would you mind posting which movies you've rented and rate them (not providing spoilers but if they're worth the rental fee or not, that sort of info....).

Thanks!

My family and I have rented 3 new release movies lately:

1. Lars and the Real Girl - excellent movie, message, etc. Indie type film though, quiet story being told, don't expect a blockbuster but rather an endearing story being told. It's been our favorite so far this season.

2. The Visitor - good movie, not great, we don't regret renting it. We just expected it to be as good as the movie above. And it wasn't!

3. Pineapple Express - Judd Apatow's crew meets Pulp Fiction (at least that was my take).....funny movie, but we liked 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, better. That conclusion surprised us, we expected PE to be Judd Apatow's finest movie so far.......from all critics were saying last year. And IMHO, I think Judd Apatow's finest piece of work was his one season TV show - Freaks and Geeks. If you like Apatow's movies, James Franco, Seth Rogan, Jason Segal, Martin Starr, etc. then you just have to, I repeat have to, rent Freaks and Geeks! It's just a rotten shame that show lasted only 1 season (a crime if you ask me!).....

Next! Please feel free to contribute, comment, anything! Well, within the rules here......of course! LOL

If you haven't seen the Dark Knight, rent it immediately.

Has anyone seen the movie titled Ghost Town, starring Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear, and Tea Leoni? Looks funny, just don't want to waste our $.

Thanks!
