I've noticed... NWS Atlanta is really slow on things. The local station just showed up to 4 inches near the AL border with 1-3" pretty much everywhere else.

I think you're chances are improving, but, my GOD(!), one must take advantage of every opportunity to spend time in Auburn, home of my collegiate alma mater and the Loveliest Village on the Plain!!!
That said, I'm looking at 3-6 inches here in Coosa County according to the NWS! I am STOKED!!!!!!

..come on NAM!!!
Looks like the 850 mb temps hitting zero corresponds with your precip ending. But good luck. Rain and about 40ºF here in Houston most of the day. If it is that cold, and not snowing, it is such a disappointment.

I'm in the heavy band just across the line in AL! Such a skinny band and I'm in it!

Re: Snow in the deep south this weekend!
Over the past 40 years or so, I have seen the snow forecast and never appear, or have it fall just to the north. There have been dozens of times that we have been 35 and rain with others getting dumped on. The setup this time is not here. However, we have another month of potential. The southern jet seems to have become activated, and I think that we will see some colder shots through mid February and better opportunities for wintry precip.

That is why Se Texas is so perfect. All four seasons, and even some snow once or twice a decade, but most winter days you can get by with a sweathsirt or light jacket, Spring lasts a long time, and warm summers, but not as bad as, say, Dallas, with some summer days relieved by sea-breeze generated afternoon t-showers.
Oh, no state income tax.

Re: Snow in the deep south this weekend!
well, all I can say is that over the past week NAM has DONE GREAT. It called the atlanta snow when GFS said all rain. And I know it is not the same region, but it was dead on with Denver not getting any snow Wednesday when GFS had up to an inch. Also, today...NWS here in Denver went with GFS on less than half and inch of accumulation for tonight. They even mentioned NAM was an"outlier" calling for 3 inches in Denver Metro...guess what happened...about an hour after the 5:00 news guys were saying so much any snow "no accumulation expected"...a band set up and downtown denver now has 3 inches of snow...in less than 3 hours. So my point...at this time I am MUCH more inclined to believe NAM on snow prediction.
I mean think about it. Wednesday had cold rain written all over it for Atlanta if you were to believe the models...and look what happened.
And of course as most southerners know...snow usually happens when its is barely predicted...and if the issue a winter advisory more than a 24 hours before...they usually bust.
In pascagoula on Christmas of 04...I know thicknesses didnt really support snow at all if you were to pay attention to models...yet for some reason, we had an inch on the bayou before the afternoon was over....and that wasnt even that cold of an airmass...if memory serves temps barely went down that night.
