Thats a very impressive image from Nasa, great structure this storm has, I'd be more inclined to agree with the JTWC estimate of it being at 90kts which is a little higher then the IMD estimates, though i guess they are 10 min wind speed values there?
Not looking foward to seeing what this storm does to the area it hits, is there any large populations near the estimated landfall?

Re: Bay of Bengal: Very Severe Cyclonic Storm NARGIS (TC 01B)
The estimated landfall for Nargis would be the Ayeyarwady Division of Myanmar. It is a populated area.

Yep that goes along with what Derek was saying, that would make it a cat-3 then wouldn't it?
not all that common in the North Indian basin though obviously they wouldn't go that high offically, the JTWC may however raise higher in thier next forecast, how high will be interesting to see however, wonder if they will go as high as the sat.imagery suggests?

Is the area that is headed a small populated area or a numerous one?

It seems that what most affected Nargis was the fact that was almost stationary for 24 hours and upwelling brought to the surface cold water. Right after the storm began to move, its organization improved dramatically.
