Yup, I'm located in Pasay City and the weather is not that bad. With zero weather info, you'll think that it's going to be a nice weekend.

I have one question, this may sound very elementary but I have not heard a single crack or rumble of Thunder for quite sometime now... Is there any explanation on this?

As Derek just said, you get subsiding or sinking air ahead of the storm, and sinking air prevents clouds and precipitation. The first rains from Santi, BTW, are getting pretty close to Manila, but they won't be hard and it won't be windy for a number of hours yet. The heavy stuff is still 12 hours or so away.

they showed radar thing on the television before, but I'm sure it's not from them and they've got a source to get that.

Thanks guys!

My sons ages 11 and 5 have no general idea what a violent rumble of thunder sounds like...unlike in my time in the late 70's and 80's, we're more afraid of thunder and lightning than the actual typhoon itself.

!?!? How long have you been there in the Philippines? They get lots of very loud thunder. Did you just move there? Where have you been living where you've never heard loud thunder?

I never left Metro Manila. This may sound crazy but it's true, I never heard a violent thunder recently, at least in my location. Sometimes, a very subtle rumble. Unlike before, I can feel our house vibrating from a sudden rumble of thunder...

Thanks ozonepete! It's because of you guys and S2K that I had a glimpse of things to come a was able to prepare ahead of time. I even moved my first re-schedule for Friday afternoon to morning... :D

I wanted to be at our house when this baby hits. It gets flooded easily here.

Some of my wife's relatives are going to travel for Daet, Camarines Norte (Bicol Region) tonight. I tried to dissuade them and still trying to convince them to postpone their travel plans until Sunday. Had no luck yet. Ah well, at least I tried to share what I know about things that might ensue...

A Cat 1 over a major city will still cause massive damage...

Got to go for now guys. Have to prepare for my dialysis scheduled for 10 AM (PST). I'll try to get photos or videos of what's going on outside if I can. Be back this afternoon... (If there's still no heavy rains and the power hasn't been cut off.)

Thanks for all the useful infos! God bless us all! :D

It's unfortunate that the storm is picking the 31st to hit because this is a very important family holiday in the Philippines where they, like the Mexicans pay their respects to their departed ones. According to JT the closest approach to Manila will be 30 miles north and almost a direct hit on old Clark Field around late morning tomorrow-going to be a wild day in both places if that happens. Cavite-I remember being down there in the immediate aftermath of TY Emma in 1967-the place got hit by a 2m backlash surge-need to back away from the water down there. Dynamically speaking, Ketsana was different from this storm where it had a monsoon surge inflow interacting with mid level dynamics associated with the developing storm. This storm based upon speed of movement looks to be good for 6-8 inches of rain in Manila which ordinarily would be bad but survivable but in the wake of Ketsana probably not what is needed right now. Winds will be an issue this time around and PS#3 conditions along the Bay Front and a bit inland can not be ruled out.
