We are currently at 24.5f and dropping. This may be a low teens night if this keeps up. About a degree below where we were at this time last night. :cold: :cold: :froze: :froze:

27F here right now, forecasted low of 23F right before sunrise, a high today of 43F under mostly sunny skies and all of my faucets including the ones inside the house are dripping just to play it safe. I like cool weather but not this cool especially when you have to worry about your faucets and your pipes. I'll leave that to my friends up north but now shall we all bow our heads and say a prayer for Mr. Jason's tropicals, that all of them will make it through the night. Amen.

NWS lowered my forecasted low to 16° - 3 degrees lower than last night's forecasted low. If it's too high by several degrees like last night....

As a tropical plant grower here my experience with those temps means unless your tropicals are in a greenhouse chances are they are truly toast. edited to say however don't throw the plant out (sometimes they come back from the roots so make sure you give them a fighting chance).

Semi hardy (in your zone) may get through with a really deep ground watering (bit late to say that now but something to keep in mind the next time this loverly weather heads your way). Nothing dry entering my winter will survive but those more tender plants (to my zone 2/3) will get through -50F with a really, really good pre-winter soaking (snow cover helps too).

I'm almost ready to send down my Eskimo parka, toque, scarves and heavy mitts (you folks just sound soooooooooooo cold  ;). However after watching the newscast of Texas drivers my husband and I were thinking we really should send down our winter tires (folks just gotta drive really, really, really slow when they are driving with summer tires on ice). I've never seen so many cars wrapped around trees and each other (that wasn't funny to watch....we closed our eyes a lot). And since the newscast showed you folks aren't used to walking on ice I suggest you attach a pillow to your rear ends. *ouch*

Take care down there!

Woke up to 17f this am. Fortunately the plummeting temps slowed a little last night, but still... :double: :double: :cold: :cold: :froze: :froze: :froze:
The hibiscus are definitely toast. I guess I;ll cut them way back when we start warming up some and hope for the best. They were about 5' and 6.5' around before this. I'll check the Poinsettia I moved to the garage and covered later today. Gonna have to clear a lot of mushy vine type plants oout of the garden too unless I just leave them to mulch andhope they come back. BI do appreciate the thought!! :cheesy: :cheesy: BTW, Pam you have at least half the formula for my birthday present right. Maybe you could just throw some of your snow up into the turbines and then we would have a blizzard!

I just woke up, the sun is shining brightly, I went outside and turned my outside faucets off then came here to check to see what my current outside temperature was, 23F so I went back outside and turned my faucets back on, now it's back to bed for a bit.

Had a low of 17° this morning. We've had a lot of fires in the fireplace and the heat comes on often. Unless it's going to snow (which it isn't), then I'm looking forward to warming up to the balmy 50s this week.

I hope everyone's plants do better than expected. Even getting above freezing yesterday and today, my birdbath is still frozen solid as a rock, and has been for days. This has got to be tough on plants/vegetation.

Sort of OT but not really: :D
I need a link to a site that will tell me what the low/high temps and wind chill was in my zip code today, yesterday and Friday.
My daughter needs this for a homework assignment. We've pretty much "guesstimated" but with technology being what it is I know I should be able to find something more exact.
I assume that the NWS site would have something like that but I've not been able to find it exactly. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Vbhoutex I promised to supply you with cold (a must ingredient) because we are hanging onto every snowflake here to break our drought (actually have a good chance of that after this winter :boog: ). C'mmon the Gulf is right next to you (unfortunately it likes to share with us come summer re humidity) so what happened to all the moisture you usually get from it???

Looks like another hard freeze here in Houston tonight. Originally the temp was supposed to get down to 25f for the low tonight, but they are now calling for low 20's. The high is indeed being slow to move East so they have trended down with the temps. currently at 29.6f @ 8:30 and dropping quickly. It appears we have almost perfect radiational cooling taking place again tonight.

28 already in NW Harris County. The affects of the very cold overnight temps the past couple of days are taking their toll on some attic water lines as well as those behind the exterior brick. I'm afraid that more problems will begin to show up in the days ahead. My tropicals are toast. And yes they were wrapped and covered.

23.5f @ 12:30am Looks like the teens are a good bet again. Long time since I have seen temps dip to the teens three nights in a row.

A low of 18° this morning... that's 3 nights in a row in the teens! Wow. And a low of 22° down at the airport. Tonight's low is expected to be below freezing, but not by much.

Go outside. I never realized how *warm* upper 40s were. :P
