WOW. Dont think anyone expected that, especially the local Mets. Would almost be a flip flop of the original forecast, when the snow was supposed to START after noon.

From FTW NWS

.UPDATE...
MODERATE SNOW ONGOING BASICALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE
20 CORRIDOR THIS MORNING WITH WIDESPREAD REPORTS OF 2-5 INCHES
ACROSS A GOOD PORTION OF THE AREA. HAVE RECEIVED A COUPLE OF
REPORTS OF RAIN MIXING WITH SLEET IN THE SOUTH METROPLEX OVER THE
LAST HALF HOUR AND SURFACE TEMPS IN MANY LOCATIONS HAVE RISEN 1-2
DEGREES. LATEST ACARS SOUNDING DATA FROM DFW AIRPORT INDICATES
CONTINUED SOUTHEAST WINDS IN THE SURFACE TO 850MB LAYER WITH THE
THERMAL PROFILE WARMING TO NEAR ZERO DEGREES C. WE WILL BE SENDING
UP A FULL SOUNDING NOW TO FURTHER ASSESS THIS LOW LEVEL THERMAL
PROFILE. WITH JUST A LITTLE FURTHER WARMING...WOULD EXPECT A
TRANSITION TO MORE SLEET OR RAIN/SLEET/SNOW MIX RIGHT ALONG THE
I-20 CORRIDOR. FARTHER NORTH...SNOW WILL CONTINUE UNTIL WARMING
NUDGES INTO THAT AREA.
LATEST 88D DATA FROM DYESS AND FORT WORTH
IS SHOWING MORE ENHANCED REFLECTIVITIES TO THE SOUTH WHICH IS
INDICATIVE OF SLEET. WILL LEAVE OVERALL WARNINGS/ADVISORIES IN
TACT BUT WILL MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO PRECIP TYPE IN THE WX
GRIDS.

I've always thought the transition back and forth would be somewhere south of I-20, didn't think it would come that close! Which is why it was hard to buy that the heaviest snows would be just south of I-20.

That would not be good for travel. Moderate to heavy sleet would cause road conditions to deteriorate quickly...

If it transitions to rain and washes out all this sneaux, there will be a lot of unhappy schoolkids.

If anything, it appears to me that the transition line has bounced back to the south on this radar shot:

Agreed Ntxw - the heaviest snow accumulations should set up directly north of this transition zone, which looks to be along and north of I-20. This is also depicted on the NAM snow accumulation map. Also, as soon as the trough moves overhead, temps will start to fall once again. That appears to be around late afternoon.

15,000 customers in Dallas county are without power due to downed powerlines from heavy snow on them according to Oncor.

Which is what KRLD's w-man was referring to earlier I believe, except he called for it earlier...

Will that warming make it up to Denton? We have some much snow on the ground it's crazy. UNT will shut down at 12.

Just went out and measured here at work, 5" in the grassy areas and 2.5 in parking lot. Lotts of slush on the side streets and bridges, highway are wet and slick but seem ok. Work is at the I-30, I-35 interchange in FTW. Still all snow with some sleet mixed in, no rain so far.
