The Rio Grande Valley is very very lucky that this didn't make landfall 30 miles or so further north.

Yep your quite right bob, if it did stay on a WNW course instead of heading just south of west like it currently is the band with hurricane force winds probably would have hit the Rio Grande region and left a far messier situation behind.

Well, it's still June where Alex is... 8-)

I wonder how the NHC or the Post Season Analysis will determine and deal with Alex if it breaks the record.

Not to mention it might have had more time over water...

I'm still in awe at the presentation of Alex, it really does have an exceptional presentation for a category-2, as others have said if you were just based off Dvorak in the open waters you'd be looking at something eventually close to 115kts.

I wish for another recon to see if Alex has strengthened even more. (It should have). Nice quote by the way. :D

Western eyewall just about to head inland now...expect winds of about 70-80kts, probably gusts near the coast between 85-95kts I'd have thought...some decent damage to those who are in the way of Alex.

That's a strong Cat 3, borderline 4 which is exactly what the satellite presentation gives off. It's also miraculously improving despite being less than an hour from landfall.

You can really see the connection there to the low pressure way to the NE of Alex there Ivanhater, with loads of storms the whole way across the Gulf states.

Its certainly left its mark thats for sure!

That was a sick rapid scan loop from CMISS! For June, this is unbelievable and should be the warning shot that the 2010 Atlantic Hurricane Season is not playing around. Should bring a rude awakening for those in it's eyewall.

As probably already mentioned, the NHC pretty much nailed this one.

Recons last pass will probably hold Alex's intensity quite steadily from before. Its western eye wall is now making its way onshore. They might might flight level winds of 110-115 to support a stronger Cat 2. Pressure probably around 950-952mb.
