One thing I have noticed is that the winds on SE Fl is blowing from the east 10 to 15 mph. I am not thinking Earl is coming here but it seems like we have a stronger high over Earl

True, it'll stair-step to the north in one or two images, then to the west in one or two others, but it's the smoothed track that actually shows where it is heading...

I spent a vacation with Ike, in Houston, back in 2008. When I flew back, on approach to T.F. Green Airport in Rhode Island, I looked down at the canopy below. You cannot see most houses from the air. Unlike flying into Houston, there are just far too many trees. In some places, entire neighborhoods cannot be see from the air. I remember, thinking about what I had just experienced with Ike, and concluded that if we were to get those kinds of sustained winds here in New England; RI, Central Ma, NE CT, with this thick green canopy, we would be in a very very bad situation. How long was Houston without power? A month to fully restore?

I do not think there are enough chain saws in New England to cope with the amount of downed trees that would result from those kinds of winds.

We were lucky to be on the MD Anderson power grid in Houston. We never lost power. People came from all over just to use the shower. This and because of loosing power for two weeks after the ice storm that hit us in central MA earlier that year, we bought a generator.

How long was Houston without gas? Weeks!

I am keeping a very close eye on this storm. Especially after seeing Bastardies' latest video. He said it very well, just a 50 mile jog west, and it becomes a much more impactive situation.

Looks like it won't ingest that dry-air slug on its south quad.

In fact, the lower pressures seems to have setup a new in-feed from the east Carib.

Wow Earl is a beauty!!!!!....Let's hope that it doesn't effect the US and Bermuda, so that we don't have to feel guilty for enjoying it's beauty...

Wow it looks like Earl is definitely a Cat 4, I'm sure the next advisory will confirm that. I think we could see a Floyd like storm in both size and intensity. Cat 5 is probably a long shot but it's not out of the question. The water temperatures are warm enough to support a Cat 5, but ERC's will probably prevent that from happening.

By the way, how many storms go south of 20N as they cross 65W and not make landfall? Earl is well inside the famous "box" right now. I think the current track is perfect and I don't see any westward adjustments, maybe an eastward adjustment once it begins to turn. I think the turn will be even sharper than the NHC track indicates although parts of Canada should still get a hefty blow from the storm.

If that's the case you should feel already guilty because the islands are having a bad time, but I don't think we should feel that way I'm enjoying the beauty of Earl though I'm not enjoying its effects.

Earl is well inside the famous "box" right now.

Keep in mind the box has nothing to do with a chance to hit the coast, it's the other way around. If a storm hits Florida it almost always passes through the Hebert box.
