Meh...I'm still not impressed. 97L is not really a guaranteed Fiona, and following 97L, we may have a SIGNIFICANT LULL.

Why, it's not foolish at all - Earl may never even get to a landfall (what? Canada? what's that?), Fiona looks terrible, and there's just a puny little tropical depression out in the Atlantic. Beyond that, it's a vast wasteland for tropical development, and it's already September! Clearly, this must be the most boring season in the history of hurricane seasons! At this rate, we might as well go ahead and cancel 2011 now, too. Bring on 2012!

See - I told you it'd be an active season (LOL)...
Kidding...
P.S. I wouldn't write off TD9 that quickly - it could be a problem for someone, but time will tell, though if we get past that and the MJO pattern shifts back to negative, then we might have passed through the most active portion of the season in pretty good shape...

But Frank, then the positive phase will move to the the Gulf and Carib,
much more dangerous......

Indeed is boring, because everytime I look at the Atlantic I see 2, 3 or 4 systems. Show me something different!

Blah...Gaston's chances of regeneration appear to be nil. I'm not optimistic about the Bay of Campeche system. All systems appear to be go for a significant lull.

since the basin is devoid of storms the bears can come out of hibernation. My guess is the western caribbean sea will be a hotbed of activity anytime from the latter half of september through october. la nina seasons are often active late in this region. plus these waters are unmolested by prior tropical activity and are therefore extremely warm. i agree that gaston looks bad at the moment but the idea of a significant lull (which is a subjective term... but i would define as at least a couple of weeks) seem unlikely. things can change very quickly in the heart of hurricane season and respites tend to be short lived.

There have been active seasons with significant lulls in September. See 2008. No TC genesis occurred between September 2 and September 25.
Ike ceased to exist as a tropical cyclone on September 14.

Yeah but we already had a significant lull this year during July and the first three weeks of August. We can't afford to have another lull now!

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

Talk about a misfire!

Season Cancel is dead. We may as well close this thread. Naysayers lost.

Ya this thread hasnt seen much activity since Daniele. But still. Sept. 5th and weve only had 10 TCs? Man I was more interested at my lawn growing.

The rate we are going since Danielle formed 16 days ago we have now seen 5 storms. I mean geez...do the math on that, if we continued this current pace 100% through September and the beginning of October and perhaps 25% of the pace in Mid October to November, we would be in 2005's range. It's just madness.
