I think Alex is definitely retired and there is a distinct possibility that Igor's impending impact on Bermuda will be severe enough to warrant retirement (let's hope not). Karl could catch a lot of people off guard. I hope they are prepared for this crazy guy.

Yall did see that sonde Observation Number: 20 hit 113mph at surface just before splash Location: 19.7N 94.69W
Splash Time: 3:51:55Z... was west of eye at time of drop

yeah its very close to cat 3. satellite presentation is quite impressive. if the next recon can get there before landfall.

I could DEFIANTLY see him reaching Major status before landfall. I think he is super close to it right now. He certainly looks stronger then the 105 reported imo

Recon just left Karl?? And all they found was 105mph?

yeah but the winds take time to respond and the cloud pattern is basically unmistakable.

Didn't our "A" storm this season (sorry forgot the name) undergo RI just a few hours before landfall? I remember it looking best immediately after landfall and we were thankful that it didn't have 6 more hours over water. We'll be saying the same thing about Karl. I think both were little tiny storms too.

using the latest satellite techniques I know. that is a major hurricane by radar and satellite estimates anyway..

it was alex this year. alex was pretty big and it did go under some ri right before landfall. pretty similar location too, karl just a little further south
