Re: Deep South Winterwx thread: Early February Fun?
Looks like NWS New Orleans will be putting up a winter wx watch today for SE Louisiana and South Mississippi
...WINTRY WEATHER EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST
LOUISIANA AND SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI BEGINNING TONIGHT...
A DEVELOPING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN THE GULF OF MEXICO...COMBINED
WITH A COLD AIRMASS CURRENTLY OVER THE REGION...IS EXPECTED TO
LEAD TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF WINTRY WEATHER ACROSS PORTIONS OF
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA AND SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI BEGINNING TONIGHT AND
LASTING THROUGH TOMORROW NIGHT.
LIGHT SLEET COULD DEVELOP LATE TONIGHT ACROSS THE SOUTHSHORE
...RIVER PARISHES...AND THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST. ACCUMULATION
OF SLEET IN THIS AREA IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO
IMPACT TRAVEL. FARTHER TO THE NORTH AND WEST...OVER THE
NORTHSHORE...BATON ROUGE METRO...AND SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI...A MIX
OF LIGHT SLEET AND LIGHT FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP LATE
TONIGHT. ANY ACCUMULATION SHOULD BE VERY LIGHT...BUT TRAVEL COULD BE
IMPACTED...ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES.
FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET IS EXPECTED TO BECOME A LARGER IMPACT FOR
THE BATON ROUGE METRO...SOUTHWEST MISSISSIPPI...AND NORTHERN
PORTIONS OF THE NORTHSHORE BY LATE TOMORROW MORNING. THIS WINTER
WEATHER EVENT SHOULD PERSIST INTO THURSDAY NIGHT...AND WILL
POTENTIALLY CREATE HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ACROSS THESE
AREAS. ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF UP TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH WITH
LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS MAY OCCUR BY THE END OF THE EVENT.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES AND WATCHES WILL LIKELY BE ISSUED FOR
PORTIONS OF THE AREA LATER TODAY.

I can't believe Pensacola has a low of 34 and I do too with rain(200 miles north!). BMX has totally taken out any mention of snow.

Keep wishing that 6-8 in of snow for us. Don't let me down. I want the maps to show it a little colder with the same amount of snow for us come tomorrow.
My wife says the same about me! I still think the freezing precip. will be alot further south and east

Our high today is supposed to be 43. Yeah, unless the temp books it up by over 10 degrees in the next 2-3 hours, I doubt it. We are sitting at 32 right now. Tomorrow the local met calls for 38 for a high. Talking about icing beginning in the afternoon and going through the night. Almost every thing I read says something different, I don't think any single model or forecast is in agreement with regards to timing, temp, amounts, etc. No wonder schools never decide to close until the very last minute. I can't blame anyone, though, as it seems we are right on the edge so it is almost impossible to call. Might get all rain, might get all ice if temps bust as they often do when we have constant cloud cover.

It took quite awhile Ivan, but the Tampa NWS office mets have finally acknowledged that the arctic air will be likely coming into the FL peninsula next week. I posted that in the Florida winter thread.

I saw that. Hopefully this will be the last deep freeze we have in Florida, although I'm not getting my hopes up this winter.

You aren't kidding. Heck, the way this winter has been, I would not be the least bit surprised if we see something brewing even in March.

Does the +NAO look like it has a chance to keep all the cold temps in the central US again or is there something different this time around? I just remember the Euro showing the bulk of the cold air being in our area a week or so before and then it all began shifting West. Hoping that doesn't happen again.

Brent, the model guidance are trending toward something developing along the southern branch of the jet stream and moving east next week. Combined that with the polar jet sending another air mass coming southward next week, we may be seeing another possible winter storm next week through TX and the Deep South.
