Don't rely on myths. The surge could overtop.

Hey Cronk - you a Plymouth State alumn? I'm a 2002 grad.

And by the way, I live in Memphis and I've been reloading this board all day! First comment though. I think there are a lot like me on right now.

I don't know the elevation of the barrier islands in that area so it's hard to know. My rule is that it's always better to evacuate and be safe if there's any doubt.

I will never forget IKEs waves crashing over the Galveston seawall under clear skies.

I think S2K management can probably answer this but I think from bring here a while that the vast majority of Tropics Enthusiasts live in FL or TXmor the Gulf Coast.
Kind of good that many have chosen to lurk rather than post too much while another region is under the gun; so to speak

That's what I thought. I really don't think he understands how strong storm surges work.

I pulled something like 30 hours straight on the board during Ike and probably more during Katrina. Note to self - get a life!

I was about that far from Ike..we ended up with about 70mph sustained and gusts to 100mph or so. This really brings back memories.

I sure hope people further north are paying attention.

I am in N Galveston County setxsunshine and IKE's winds spread very far creating a CAT 4 storm surge E of Galveston. Peak gust at the house was 64mph. The surge was devestating.

We are running faster and further east than the current forecast track on #Irene. http://twitpic.com/6br6as

Is this correct? If so, does this mean land fall earlier?

Nice one. And, I thought I'd ask as I know the Plymouth State University meteorology program really took off about the time I graduated. Not too bad for a place, literally, in the middle-of-nowhere-White-Mountains-New Hampshire. :)

Enjoying the discussion everyone. Keep it up!

They are gonna be out for a long spell. I hate to hear that, cause it will be 24 hrs to 3 weeks to get it back on...depending on the extent of damage. Thoughts and prayers with all in the path.
