I hope Karma gets the memo about this heat come winter. I want a quarter of the year (all of winter) with at least 1 inch snow cover in all of Texas! What a dream...

We're the only year to have TWO months on the all-time record monthly totals list. Good God.

If you look at highs forecasted at DFW thru the period, it'll hit day 68 on Saturday and then drop down to 98 for the high on Sunday. Maybe we'll get just enough pre-frontal warming to hit 100 on Sunday and tie. Also of note, it looks like our chances for rain have dropped considerably due to the tropical system expected to develop. Boooooo!

Del Rio has passed their all time 100+ record.
Today... the high temperature was 102 degrees at del Rio. This Marks
the 79th day this year with a high temperature of 100 degrees or
higher. This establishes a new record for days in a year with high
temperatures 100 or higher. The previous record for del Rio was 78
days in 1953. The forecast calls for highs around 100 for the next
several days. So... more days will likely be added to this new
record.

If this thing in the Gulf gets going and goes east of us will that send us back into 100+ temp again?
No, actually if the Gulf system gets organized enough, it should have the effect of pulling down cooler and drier air to our north. No rain for us but at least we wouldn't have the Easy Bake Oven temperatures outside.
Yeah, I noticed 74 degrees this morning in the car at about 7:45 a.m. Coolest readings I've seen in quite some time.

What's funny, DFW may fall just short at yet another weather record barely again lol. After Saturday the GFS is not advertising anymore 100+ temps for Dallas. Of course that can change but I just find it funny we keep being shy of records. First it was annual snowfall two winters ago (an inch away), then the 42 (two days shy) day streak of consecutive 100 now this might not make it either by a day!

I know a lot of us are disappointed about the rain chances, but this sounds so refreshing! I cannot wait!!! Hopefully the gulf system will remain weak so that it can draw up moisture instead of consolidating it for frontal passage.

TEMPERATURES BEHIND THE FRONT WILL BE NEAR SEASONAL NORMS. THE
MEXMOS HAD HIGHS IN THE MID 80S MONDAY AND LOWS NEAR 60 TUESDAY
MORNING. THESE VALUES SEEMED A LITTLE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE SO WENT
WITH HIGHS NEAR 90 ON MONDAY AND LOWS IN THE MID 60S TUESDAY
MORNING. NORTH WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO PREVAIL THROUGH THE
REMAINDER OF THE FORECAST PERIOD AFTER THE FRONTAL PASSAGE SUNDAY
EVENING.

It doesn't matter because NWS has already said this is the hottest summer on record. And 2011 is in the Top 10 for 100+ streaks at 2 positions. But I bet we hit 100 at some point again before it's all over. I'm not basing that on looking at any models, but on the fact that we always get some heat in mid-Sept it seems.
I know we aren't getting any rain from 93L, but look on the bright side, the forecasted highs are in the upper 80's to low 90's for next week. Now I can go ride my bike after work without dieing from heat stroke.

That's the only way to describe it. We better not have another summer like this ever again.

OK, I'm not making this up ... my middle-schooler told me that the other day on recess break, some of the kids were cheering because there were clouds in the sky and they obscured the sun for a bit. He said: "Dad, it was like the time it snowed last year and everyone went crazy ... they did the same thing except it was for clouds!"

Yes we are this desperate in Texas!!! I know it is way over the edge when I am hoping we get a TC coming in to our SW so we get the dirty side of the storm.

Re: C/S TX Weather: Frying Pan Summer
When I drove back from Washington DC last weekend, the cut-off was really, really stark. It's between Arkadelphia and Texarkana, and when you cross it, everything is brown and stunted and there's scrubbrush growing in dead pastures....it looks like some areas near Lubbock, except it's near typically verdant Texarkana! I'd hate to see what West Texas looks like right now.
1980 never appears twice on any of those lists. We're knocking down the records.
But there is one important area that, thank God, we are nowhere close to 1980 in:
And we've only had the one day at 110° whereas 1980 had five of them, including two days in a row at the all-time record 113°. I'm still going to consider this the second-hottest summer in DFW history...but the hottest I've ever experienced personally by far!!!!
Why have our low temperatures been so warm this year compared to 1980? Is it just urban heat island effect as DFW grows, or are there other factors?
