The thought that almost one quarter of an entire year we had temps at or above 100 degrees ... I mean, that is just insane!

And we're inching closer to the big one...
Today... the high temperature was 102 degrees at del Rio. This Marks
the 79th day this year with a high temperature of 100 degrees or
higher. This establishes a new record for days in a year with high
temperatures 100 or higher. The previous record for del Rio was 78
days in 1953. The forecast calls for highs around 100 for the next
several days. So... more days will likely be added to this new
record.

If this thing in the Gulf gets going and goes east of us will that send us back into 100+ temp again?
TEMPERATURES BEHIND THE FRONT WILL BE NEAR SEASONAL NORMS. THE
MEXMOS HAD HIGHS IN THE MID 80S MONDAY AND LOWS NEAR 60 TUESDAY
MORNING. THESE VALUES SEEMED A LITTLE TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE SO WENT
WITH HIGHS NEAR 90 ON MONDAY AND LOWS IN THE MID 60S TUESDAY
MORNING. NORTH WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO PREVAIL THROUGH THE
REMAINDER OF THE FORECAST PERIOD AFTER THE FRONTAL PASSAGE SUNDAY
EVENING.

Of course that can change but I just find it funny we keep being shy of records. First it was annual snowfall two winters ago (an inch away), then the 42 (two days shy) day streak of consecutive 100 now this might not make it either by a day!

OK, I'm not making this up ... my middle-schooler told me that the other day on recess break, some of the kids were cheering because there were clouds in the sky and they obscured the sun for a bit. He said: "Dad, it was like the time it snowed last year and everyone went crazy ... they did the same thing except it was for clouds!"
