Very sad news in Guadeloupe, remembering January 2011
. Crazy night yesterday. These news are from a tv station from France called "LCI".
Guadeloupe: a death, roads cut after floods
http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.a ... 25986.html
Someone, probably swept away by waters, was missing Tuesday morning in Guadeloupe, where relief have multiplied the interventions and roads were cut after very heavy rains, was learned from the prefecture and relief. Localized flooding, especially on the road, were observed Monday evening and during the night, blocking motorists and binding the municipalities of Pointe-à-Pitre and les Abymes to open schools to accommodate the survivors of the road. In a point of situation released Tuesday at 2: 00 p.m. local (8 h 00 in Paris), the Prefecture said that "all the missing persons were found, except a person who would have swept away by waters in a canal of les Abymes, according to a witness". The services of the State have recorded about 80 firefighters interventions, gendarmes and police to rescue and develop safe "63 people blocked in their vehicle or in flooded houses". "Only one required a transport to the hospital," said the Prefecture.

That was yesterday night, hopefully rain has stopped since this morning but another rounds are forecasted to spread on us. Let's hope that nothing more happens because of the situation is always worrying here. We will see...
TRAFFIC. Motorists still blocked due to flooded roads
E. Lerondeau franceantilles.fr08.05.2012
http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.a ... 169160.php
The weather situation has deteriorated strongly in early evening, particularly on the greater pointoise (of Montebello Petit-Bourg at Saint-Félix Gosier) where traffic conditions are extremely difficult because of flooded roads. At 23: 30, many motorists are still blocked.
The message of the prefecture is clear: "stay in you or put you in safety". There is that hundreds of motorists are not yet managed to reach their homes or potential shelters, stranded by flooded roads across the greater pointoise (of Saint-Félix Montebello). Many vehicles are also in failure affecting roads and making difficult the work of teams of roads of Guadeloupe and firefighters. They have already performed many rescues, but fortunately no victim is for time to regret (Editor's Note: 23: 30 pm). Les Abymes, Morne-to-l'Eau relief centres, Petit-Bourg have been strengthened. The CODIS is enabled, and the Prefecture crisis cell. There unfortunately is aberrant behaviour of motorists travelling contraflow on the left lane to try to escape. It is also asked to users of portable free network to facilitate the work of relief.
A few black dots
A Baie-Mahault, 1.20 to 1.50 m of water blocked the road at the level of the agricultural college, at convenience. Beausoleil and bottom Richer are also in the water. The Mayor of Baie-Mahault announced that accommodation is open to la Jaille.
A Pointe-à-Pitre, the mayor points to 15-20 cm of water in the streets of the city.
In les Abymes, the situation is critical to Baimbridge, Raizet, Grand Camp and Chauvel.
To Gosier, a landslide is reported in the Riviera, and fallen electrical cable. The passage is virtually impossible at the level of the giant Casino, the road being flooded.
However, the road crossing is open. Announces theclosed airport.

Good morning. All indications are that the second half of May will be with below normal rainfall, and it may look ironic, but it's good for the islands that have recieved abundant precipitation in past weeks.

Re: Caribbean - C A:Rain continues in parts of Eastern Caribbean
Unfortunately, much of the eastern Caribbean from Martinuque to Antigua will see a continuation of heavy rainfall with flash flooding through the end of the week. I just posted a discussion on this potential with forecast rain totals from today through Thursday across the islands of the eastern Caribbean. Discussion at http://www.crownweather.com/?p=6959

Here is the latest news concerning this big rain event from Meteo-France Guadeloupe 6AM.
http://www.meteo.fr/temps/domtom/antill ... ivi_gd.pdf
I've made a translation. Thanks to all my carib friends, we appreciate your wink towards the "flooded butterfly island". Yeah you read it: 300 millimeters of water just on our airport! I wonder if it's not a new record or tied record? at le Raizet since... Lenny 1999! I will make researches to have a better idea on this possible record...
Current situation and Observations
A moist and unstable air mass is stagnant on the Caribbean arc from almosta week, causing many showers, sometimes stormy. Very strong showers were observed yesterday day and first part of night. Accumulations have been approaching 300 mm
in 12 hours measured at the Raizet. Up to 150 mm were estimated on Petit-Bourg, Baie-Mahault and le Gosier, and between 50 and 100 mm on the rest of the Grande-Terre. On Basse-Terre, les Saintes, Marie-Galante and la Désirade, rollups haver eached 30-50 mm during the night.
Forecast
Despite a decrease in the intensity of rain and thunderstorm activity since the middle of last night, many storms continue to beform around our islands, particularly in the Caribbean Sea, and threaten to cross us at any time. Time is generally sullen and wet, in an atmosphere still very unstable. The weakness of the wind can also promote stormy developments as early as midday on our land.
Comments. Consequences
