From: rudy victor <rudyvictor at yahoo.com>

I was in the Destin, FL Lowe's earlier, which was as busy as I've ever seen it, and it seemed like 80% of the folks there were buying generators. Plywood was also selling well at the Destin Home Depot.

Isn't weather funny though. Last night we were under TS watch and were looking for rain and got only a drizzle. Now tonight the storm is further away and we have heavy rains lightning and thunder.

Right now a lot of people are going out and treating it as a normal saturday night. As expected, it should be that way, Isaac isn't a surprise down here.

I almost think we should start a separate thread for LA/MS/AL/TX...particularly the first two states...given the probability that the NHC cone will continue to shift and therefore people may not take the threat seriously if the cone does not immediately reflect the evolving models by shifting over their area. I think all of us really want to avoid a situation like Katrina and I would hope that this board may serve as a conduit with which to spread preparedness NOW for what may be a very serious situation. Mods, thoughts? Thank you for all your hard work!

Sorry, but that has been the story of this system all the way through from the East Caribbean. The focus on the centre is understandable in trying to work out direction and intensity but the residents of the islands will tell you, have told you over and over again, the size of the storm and the rain it holds in its outlying bands, is the big impact. Wind speed is only one issue we face in these storms - rain is the big killer for many of us together with overall size - in other words how long will it take to completely pass. Good luck to you all but don't lower your defences until the whole of the storm has passed.
