it's been a rough night i've never seen this since hurricane allen in 1980 ,from 11 pm to about 430 am port au prince was under wind higher than 30 mi/h with 50 to 60 mi/h gust.A lot trees down,bilboards,but in the country side it is a hard blow ,after the drought the floods in the plain of archaie all the plantations are gone,in the southeast part of the country it is worst all the rivers left their banks, scores of roof are gone ,so far two deaths but with difficult communication i am sure the death told will climb.

It continues to move to Cuba 28 km/h in the direction Northwest. Maximum winds currently 95 km/h with gusts well over, and the area of influence is 335 km around its Center. Rain, winds and thunderstorms associated with the passage of ISAAC are therefore still expected across the country.
The use forced major highways blocked by falls from tree and alluvium, with the support of private firms. Many trees and branches fell in the metropolitan area. A "Batimat" billboard near the airport was heavily damaged by the wind. At the level of the grey River North of Port - au Prince, the current is very strong.
The DPP informed that about 5,000 people were evacuated during the night in five departments (Western, Nippes, Grand-Anse, South and Southeast). More than 3000 in Western Haiti.
The communication is cut with the communes of Belle-Anse, Grand-Gosier, Anse-à-Pitre and Thiotte.
Strong winds and rain are registered in Bombardopolis, Baie-de-Henne and Môle Saint Nicolas. Roofs were also washed away.
At 8: 00 ISAAC is located at 19.7N 73.8W, 66 km to the West of Jean Rabel, 105 km to the southwest of Cap-Haïtien, 120 km northwest of Gonaïves, 133 km northwest of Saint - Marc, and 200 km to the Northwest of Port - au Prince, he continues to move to Cuba 22 km / h in the direction Northwest. The Bourdon road is blocked with trees that have fallen, the use are at work to clear the shoed.
The DPP to the population of les Cayes to avoid move requests and informed that the shelters are open and that they can receive 32,000 people, adding "heavy rain and strong winds on the Southeast." "Massive coastal evacuation."
A transformer in Tabarre (Innovation) to brule in a flood, HRE has cut the food and the fire was extinguished.
A fishing boat was shipwrecked in Fort Liberté. The DPP and Coast Guard rescued 5 occupants.

Isn't weather funny though. Last night we were under TS watch and were looking for rain and got only a drizzle. Now tonight the storm is further away and we have heavy rains lightning and thunder.

I almost think we should start a separate thread for LA/MS/AL/TX...particularly the first two states...given the probability that the NHC cone will continue to shift and therefore people may not take the threat seriously if the cone does not immediately reflect the evolving models by shifting over their area. I think all of us really want to avoid a situation like Katrina and I would hope that this board may serve as a conduit with which to spread preparedness NOW for what may be a very serious situation. Mods, thoughts? Thank you for all your hard work!

Sorry, but that has been the story of this system all the way through from the East Caribbean. The focus on the centre is understandable in trying to work out direction and intensity but the residents of the islands will tell you, have told you over and over again, the size of the storm and the rain it holds in its outlying bands, is the big impact. Wind speed is only one issue we face in these storms - rain is the big killer for many of us together with overall size - in other words how long will it take to completely pass. Good luck to you all but don't lower your defences until the whole of the storm has passed.
