Doesn't get much better than this graphic for cold and snow across the lower 48, monster block covering North American with a active subtropical jet.....

GFS ensemble mean for the 11-12 day range

Again Austin is missing the rain, it is moving just to the south of us.

Look at Europe on that Ensemble graphic too. :cold: The PV is still a tad too east for us though

That's if you take the GFS as gospel, the Euro has the PV further west in the long range. A lot of things are beginning to align much better than they did in early January, AO NAO and EPO tanking with the MJO coming around into a much more favorable phase. The west coast ridge alignment looks more favorable than it did last month as well.

Yep, there is nothing fighting the potential colder pattern (except wxman57). AO went very negative today, MJO is heading to the US coast to coast chill phases. The potential epic nor'easter is just a signal that wavelengths are tightening up over North America. As the GWO and SOI have indicated, the storms are getting bigger and high latitude blocking is taking over. Winter over? Not until February says it's over!

Over. Did someone say its over?....

Bluto: Hey! What's all this laying around stuff? Why are you all still laying around here for?
Stork: What the hell are we supposed to do, ya moron? We're all expelled. There's nothing to fight for anymore.
D-Day: [to Bluto] Let it go. War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: [to Boon] Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...
[thinks hard of something to say]
Bluto: The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
[Bluto runs out, alone; then returns]
Bluto: What the heck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my rear from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...
Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic... but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!
Bluto: We're just the guys to do it.
D-Day: [stands up] Yeah, I agree. Let's go get 'em.
Boon: Let's do it.
Bluto: [shouting] "Let's do it"!
[all of the Deltas stand up and run out with Bluto]

Am I the only one here in this thread that hates winter? I still think it's quite possible that Houston (IAH, not Conroe or Huntsville) will NOT see another freeze this year. Hopefully, the cold will remain to our north and east where it belongs. Quite a snow storm coming for the northeast Fri/Sat.

Look here, as history has showed us all before, Winter will return before spring is here, and yes we will see at least 1 snow event before then. :cold:

Oops! Left an important word out of my post -- quite possible Houston will NOT see another freeze. We're done.

I miss summer...

Oh Canada! Check out the cmc, not saying it's correct but how it plays out mirrors a snowstorm very close to our hearts in north Texas

Where are you seeing that (URL)? I'm looking at the Canadian (through 144hrs) and see some rain across TX next Monday night/Tue.

The Labatts-drinking mets at the Portastorm Weather Center are pleased to see that our work with our Canadian friends is paying off as evidenced by the 12z operational run of the CMC. More to follow.

I'm really depressed SA and Austin missed out on the rain today. The models all showed at least .25 inch for us, and all we could get is a trace. Heartbreaking.

Looks like Euro is back in game after a hiccup last night, phase! Now just need the GFS to get wetter and cold like the other two globals.
