You've waited this long, what's another couple of weeks going to hurt?

The coldest/wettest part of this Texas winter was in late December, not in the next two weeks. Back then the high in the Dallas area was at freezing with a low in the low 20s, along with snow. Nothing like that in the coming weeks. There will be more cold fronts in the coming months, but nothing near as cold as it was in January. Southern storm track remains active for the next few weeks, but the general flow pattern is changing so as to keep the cold air up in Canada (zonal flow across Canada).

I find myself in the unusual and somewhat disconcerting position of fully agreeing with wxman57. Sorry lads. But I admire your spunk and I hope I'm very wrong and y'all are right. And I'm hereby publicly giving you the right to give me tons of grief if it ends up that I gave up too soon.

Snow in the DFW area.

SOUNDING DATA AND SATELLITE
OBSERVATIONS INDICATED THE PRESENCE OF MOISTURE ABOVE 750MB OR
ABOUT 8000FT AND THIS IS GENERALLY THE BASE OF THE CLOUD DECK OVER
THE REGION NOW. THERE ARE SOME LIGHT RADAR RETURNS ACROSS THE
REGION WHICH ARE ACTUALLY WEAK SNOW BANDS ALOFT...AS CONFIRMED BY
DUAL POL RADAR DATA. THIS SNOW IS LIKELY EVAPORATING IN THE VERY
DRY AIR BELOW THE CLOUD DECK OR MELTING INTO JUST SPRINKLES

Does snow not reaching the ground, or reaching the ground in melted form count as wintry precip in anyone's office pool? :)

Great, the Dark Lord of the Summer strikes again. All hope is lost. We are doomed. Sigh.

Battle of the two great oceans. Will the Pacific or Atlantic win? Will the EPO/PNA crush our last remaining hopes and dreams or will the AO/NAO come to the rescue???

I like cold and wet. It has been lacking this winter, especially cold. I do not want another drought. :grr:

All I can hope here in my area is for some late spring early summer meandering mid/upper level lows! Had another dry frontal passage here early this afternoon.

I would be curious to find out if the extreme deforestation that is taking place in the Mexican high plateaus between the Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre Oriental mountain ranges is causing the air down there to become even drier and warmer and , in turn, strengthening the capping inversion that limits rainfall here in Texas. This just one more variable that could be affecting our weather. I was reading about the deforestation and know that the plateau area is the birthplace of the Texas cap. Nothing in the atmosphere happens in isolation. Maybe I could start another thread with this, but the last time I did I didn't get any responses. Maybe they should paint the whole area white to cool it down to weaken the cap. :cheesy:
