With arguably the coldest/wettest part of this Texas winter coming up over the next two weeks, I gotta admit I'm pretty disappointed in the PWC for quitting on winter so soon. There is big potential on the playing field for a Texas winter storm late next weekend, 24-25th time frame even down into central Texas. You've waited this long, what's another couple of weeks going to hurt?

The coldest/wettest part of this Texas winter was in late December, not in the next two weeks. Back then the high in the Dallas area was at freezing with a low in the low 20s, along with snow. Nothing like that in the coming weeks. There will be more cold fronts in the coming months, but nothing near as cold as it was in January. Southern storm track remains active for the next few weeks, but the general flow pattern is changing so as to keep the cold air up in Canada (zonal flow across Canada).

Well folks I have some terrible news to pass on... The one and only Portastorm has lost his short battle with HMV (Heat Miser Voodoo ) and passed away from this thread today 2/15/2013... He will be Greatly missed.

People should really wish for cold and wet. Early Warmth will probably only result in more drought. East Texas has been getting some rain, southwest Texas has not. Not going to be a good situation around here.

I would be curious to find out if the extreme deforestation that is taking place in the Mexican high plateaus between the Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre Oriental mountain ranges is causing the air down there to become even drier and warmer and , in turn, strengthening the capping inversion that limits rainfall here in Texas. This just one more variable that could be affecting our weather. I was reading about the deforestation and know that the plateau area is the birthplace of the Texas cap. Nothing in the atmosphere happens in isolation. Maybe I could start another thread with this, but the last time I did I didn't get any responses. Maybe they should paint the whole area white to cool it down to weaken the cap.
