Definitely the coldest night of the season now hereas well. A blustery 42 degrees and chilling quick! Might see 30s by daybreak here at my locale! I've been out and about all night while working, and I can attest...its pretty cold outside!

Winds died overnight and temp dropped quickly under clear skies. 43F at 3am now it is 37.2F, The winds held up just long enough to keep it from freezing. Sun will be up shortly so the temp will plateau then rise. Odd to receive the coldest weather of winter in the last 2 weeks. Another cold shot Wed/Thur (not as cold) then warming for the weekend. Can we say goodbye after that - to winter?

Surprisingly at Orlando's Int'l airport they reported 31 degs at 5 AM before going back to above freezing at 6 AM while the rest of the city for the most part stayed above freezing, winds really died off after midnight and is frosty over most of the city.
gsytch, I do believe this is the last shot of cold air this cold for the season, as the NAO is forecasted to get closer to neutral and the PNA to go negative, so it should warm up slowly back to a more persistent 70s and 80s pattern over the next couple of weeks.

It did drop to 29 degrees at my location at around 5 a.m. this morning, then the wind picked up to around 5 mph or so to mix the air just enough to raise the temp through sunrise. Now it is above freezing at 33.4 degrees with the sun out bright to warm it up into the low 60s today, which will feel much better than the 47 degree high here yesterday.
However, the wind stayed light long enough overnight for frost to form and it is scattered everywhere here this morning. This is the ninth freeze of the season and hopefully it will be the last one. As NDG pointed out above, after a brief cooldown Wednesday and Thursday of this week, we will warm back well into the 70s and 80s statewide by this upcoming weekend. Spring will kick into gear across the peninsula.
This winter still has been quite a warm one though folks and for that we should be thankful. I have only measured 9 freezes at my locale this season, compared to 16 from last year. My locale only had one hard freeze this season, and that was on Feb.18 when the mercury dropped to 24 degrees.

Re: Florida Weather
My thermometer actually dropped all the way to 35 degs, sometime between 4 and 6 am...then was 38 by the time I left around 7. it records the high and low until you reset it, but not the time lol. Either way, NDG is right, those NW winds really brought in the cold to this part of the state this time!

Re: Florida Weather
Must be the Gulf. I don't think we went below 46*. Strong March sun moderating refreshingly brisk air now and climbing through the 50's.
This one really bellied down more than any front this year all the way through Cuba.

Re: Florida Weather
We were 47* when I went to bed last night which was coldest earliest of all the days, but the wind shifted and we were warmer this am.
Interesting yesterday it was 62* on the island on the car thermometer and 70* only 15 miles away in Ft Myers.

Today was a sunny, beautiful spring-like day here. Brisk southwest winds gusting up to 25-30mph at times today brought the warmth today statewide ahead of the deepening storm system currently approaching the Ohio Valley. Temperature currently 76.6 degrees, and the max so far today has been 77.8 degrees. Clouds have moved in ahead of the frontal system extending from our big storm which is organizing in the Ohio Valley. The best dynamics are too far north to give the state significant rainfall, if any occurs at all. There is just a very slight chance of showers tonight here. The cold front will cross through North Florida overnight and the remaining of the peninsula during the day Wednesday.
However, the storm system will intensify as it reaches the DELMARVA region by tomorrow and move slowly off the coast of that region. The preesure gradient with the High Pressure building east from the Southern Plains and the intensifying storm system off the Mid Atlantic coast is going to bring very windy conditions across the state tomorrow and Wednesday night. Wind advisories have already been posted for the region for northwest winds 20-30 mph with gusts to up to 40 mph+ in the coastal waters.
Another cool down is in store for the region, although thankfully it should not be as cold as our last two cold snaps. The models are depicting the High Pressure ridge axis to move east, which would keep it to the north of the region to help keep winds elevated enough to keep a freeze from occuring across most of North Florida. Cold air will advect in on those very strong northwest winds here tomorrow for max temps only in the upper 50s. I checked the latest projection from NWS Jax for Thursday morning for 34 degrees. I don't think it will get to the freeze mark with the projection the models have for the positioning of the High Pressure axis, but still will watch that closely tomorrow.
Hang in there everyone in the northern peninsula as after this upcoming cool snap, models show temps moderate back well into the 70s and low 80s statewide by Sunday. Hopefully, after the middle part of this month, it will be safe to plant the garden. (fingers crossed)

Re: Florida Weather
Yesterday's sun had that March hint of heat to it. Very light showers here right now as the cold front pushes through at the bottom of the snow system up north 64*.

The wind yesterday was nasty. After the front passes, gusts easily reached 30mph for a few hours, and temps never made it above 60F. Combined with the wind, it felt COLD. It appears as if this is the last real front for some time, and with mid march approaching, it surely will begin to warm up! 44F current. Tonight may be chilly due to radiational cooling and calm winds, but then Friday starts the warmup. This is the first winter since 2008-09 where the temp never hit freezing. Lowest 34.5F but there was frost that morning. This is the second consecutive zone 10a winter!

Just missed a freeze here earlier today as the low temperature registered 34.4 degrees at my locale. The wind stayed in the 5-10mph range overnight to keep frost from developing and the mixing air at the surface kept us just above the freezing mark.
The 1030mb High Pressure center over North Alabama late today will get close enough to us overnight and early tomorrow morning to allow to wind to become light and set up for pretty good radiational cooling conditions. Dew point temps are in the low 30s currently across North Florida and SE GA interior areas, so expect the mercury to drop in the low-mid 30s interior areas tomorrow morning. There will be frost in many spots early tomorrow morning across the inland colder locations.
Barring any other freakish late season cold spells, this should be the last evening of cold and frost here in inland Northeast Florida of this season. (knocking on wood) Temps will moderate into the 70s this weekend with no rain expected until about Tuesday of next week.

Never made it above 60F here today. A W wind blew all afternoon off 60F water - do the math! It is COLD out right now at 58F with a 5-10mph breeze. Brrr A cold night ahead with clear skies. While the seabreeze keeps us cool int eh afternoon - as much as 12 degrees below inland - when the sun sets the breeze stops. I expect upper 30's here with some frost in cold inland areas. After Sunday low 80's all next week! FINALLY!

Earlier today at home had some frost scattered around and the low reading recorded on the thermometer registered 35.2 degrees. It is just an absolute sunny beautiful day. Temperatures have moderated already to near 60 degrees at this hour. The High Pressure axis centered just north of the area today will provide a light north-northeast wind flow this afternoon, which will keep the max today in 64-67 degree range.
Beautiful spring weekend weather in store here with temps slowly moderating as the winds slowly veer onshore from the Atlantic. Highs expected near 70 on Saturday and mid 70s Sunday. Min temps in the low 40s tomorrow and mid to upper 40s on Sunday.
