Today was a sunny, beautiful spring-like day here. Brisk southwest winds gusting up to 25-30mph at times today brought the warmth today statewide ahead of the deepening storm system currently approaching the Ohio Valley. Temperature currently 76.6 degrees, and the max so far today has been 77.8 degrees. Clouds have moved in ahead of the frontal system extending from our big storm which is organizing in the Ohio Valley. The best dynamics are too far north to give the state significant rainfall, if any occurs at all. There is just a very slight chance of showers tonight here. The cold front will cross through North Florida overnight and the remaining of the peninsula during the day Wednesday.
However, the storm system will intensify as it reaches the DELMARVA region by tomorrow and move slowly off the coast of that region. The preesure gradient with the High Pressure building east from the Southern Plains and the intensifying storm system off the Mid Atlantic coast is going to bring very windy conditions across the state tomorrow and Wednesday night. Wind advisories have already been posted for the region for northwest winds 20-30 mph with gusts to up to 40 mph+ in the coastal waters.
Another cool down is in store for the region, although thankfully it should not be as cold as our last two cold snaps. The models are depicting the High Pressure ridge axis to move east, which would keep it to the north of the region to help keep winds elevated enough to keep a freeze from occuring across most of North Florida. Cold air will advect in on those very strong northwest winds here tomorrow for max temps only in the upper 50s. I checked the latest projection from NWS Jax for Thursday morning for 34 degrees. I don't think it will get to the freeze mark with the projection the models have for the positioning of the High Pressure axis, but still will watch that closely tomorrow.
Hang in there everyone in the northern peninsula as after this upcoming cool snap, models show temps moderate back well into the 70s and low 80s statewide by Sunday. Hopefully, after the middle part of this month, it will be safe to plant the garden. (fingers crossed)
