That was only 2 inches for most of the metroplex and I wasn't even here for it, so even if it was 4 inches I wouldn't count it.

Since you haven't lived in this area long, you should realize that this area averages about 1.5" of snowfall a year. That's why when we do get good snows, we should enjoy it but not get spoiled. It's not common.

:uarrow: what do you mean? I have lived in this area for 17 years. And im almost sure Dallas' average snow fall total is right around 4 inches. (That might be counting ice and sleet though)

This is not correct. DFW averages 1.7 inches of snow per year (sleet and ice are bundled up with snow data). You have to remember where you live, in a post before I mentioned Dallas is in the same latitude as Macon, Charleston, Northern Africa. The fact that we get snowfall opportunities every year is a miracle in itself. DFW has never gone a year without at least a trace of snow. That's a tribute to being located in the middle of the continent and extreme weather the southern plains often sees. We can go a decade without seeing any kind of significant snowfall greater than 2 inches. Take example the 90s, only 1996 saw 2.4 inches while every other year that period was less than 1 inch. 3+ years of just a trace or less than inch of snow happens more often than you think in the past.

49th freeze recorded this morning at DFW. Looks like we may be suspended at that number for awhile. Won't get another freeze opportunity until the last week of the month unless some unforeseen transient cold front is stronger than modeled.

The GEFS ens agrees with above average until the final week, which then below normal gradually returns with the NE Pacific ridge reappearing. Euro Ens and cfsv2 are in pretty good agreement

These are 5 day averages

I think it's quite likely that Houston has seen its lasts freeze of this winter. I'm not talking about Conroe, as they'll probably have another 20 freezes (well, maybe 1 more in Conroe). Don't know why they're so much colder than Bush airport. A zonal flow pattern isn't conducive to very cold temps and winter precip, and that zonal flow pattern should last through the end of February and into March. Time to hand up the coat in the back of the closet and get those short-sleeved shirts out! :boog:

Ok, I thought I had heard somewhere that we got close to 4 inches of snow like the weather chanel, which I shouldn't have trusted. Maybe I was thinking of the panhandel of Texas.

Friendly bet, i think we have one more. Maybe in early March :). I see the US having a big warmup over the next two weeks though. I think it will be welcomed for sure

However it depends on the geographical location, from bodies of water, mountains and such. They all play a part in weather.

I'll take that bet. How about if Bush records another low of 32F or colder then I'll make a post here that I absolutely love cold air and don't want winter to ever end. ;-)

So, based on your comments above, I assume you are discounting the highest scoring computer model out there ... the European? The Euro deterministic model for several runs now breaks down the zonal pattern around the 22nd-23rd and has a major storm in the Southern Plains at that time.

The current Euro has nothing but 70s for Houston through 10 days. I realize that the cold front isn't predicted to move through Houston until just beyond the 10th day. However, I think we're looking at temps in the mid to upper 30s for a night or two vs. 32F.

I would have been tempted to go for higher stakes.

Like Heat Miser moves to the equator.

Or promises to stay off this board for the entire 2014-15 winter season.

I'm rooting for ya TeamPlayersBlue! Currently sending the stolen weather machine to the gulf of Alaska and cranking it up to wxman57 heat!

Moving to the Equator would be a reward for me, not a punishment. I do admit to just a little bit of -removed- with respect to my declaration of no more freezes at Bush.
