I know by most here TWC is not regarded as a serious source, but for comedic purposes:
"For Houston, 74 today but by tomorrow you will see almost a 20 degree temperature drop."
Is this a joke?

Was wondering that myself ... I just took a look at several short-range models including the HRRR-RAP which is usually pretty darn good for 0-12 hours. It suggests that most of the precip will be to our east/northeast by the time we hit freezing. That model shows the AUS metro area getting very close to freezing around 6-7 p.m. and dropping below freezing around 10 p.m. I'm namely talking about Travis County here. Hill Country and northern 'burbs will obviously hit freezing sooner. Heck, it's freezing now in the far western/northwestern portions of the Hill Country.
Our best shot at any wintry precip may happen late Monday into early Tuesday.

All cars, trees, and rooftops already have a solid layer of ice/sleet on them in west Fort Worth...main roads are just wet but this could get ugly if that CAPE breaks

Didn't somebody tell you/us that there would be no winter weather in Texas today?!
Poor Heat Miser. He's locked into a swirling torment of winter.

Radar activity seems to be increasing in our area but so far too warm for anything but rain. I don't like cold rain but since we are in a drought I won't complain.

Wntrwthrguy wrote:What kind of scenarios are we looking at happening Monday night into Tuesday in the Austin area?
The NAM has consistently shown a light freezing rain event for the Austin area during that time frame. The GFS has come in a little colder for that period last few runs as well and now shows freezing rain just to our north but keeps Austin metro area a few degrees above freezing. Not sure about the Euro.
It seemed implausible to me a few days ago but given the NAM's hot hand, I wouldn't want to argue against it right now.

If I could get Imageshack to work on my stupid smart phone, I'd be happy to oblige! On a different note, minor accidents occurring on Hwy 380 due to ice accumulations. Again, be careful people!

Re: Texas Winter 2013-2014
as of late last night, we weren't "suppose to be below freezing until after noon". It's 23 at Fort Worth alliance & 25 at meacham and not even noon.
Meanwhile 15z rap spits out widespread 2" of qpf over dfw.
What the 15z rap is showing even 4 hours out is downright scary. The Cap gets SHATTERED with convective sleetstorm right over dfw

Speaking of, he's gone MIA
Sleet as the predominant precip type speaks volumes to how cold this air mass is, it's overcoming a 5,000 ft warm nose of some 50 plus deg F
