Did recon just measure double wind maxima?

Edit: Never mind. Misread coordinates.

I'm right at NC/SC line on coast & I've been watching closely... seems to be slowing, but heading North to me too! Awaiting the turn any moment now...

Not sure, but within the last couple frames of satellite view, something definitely happened within the eyewall...sort of elongated east to west maybe? Certainly not the smaller eyelike feature we saw earlier.

At this rate, I'm wondering if Wilmington is not going to be the landfall spot.

NHC might have to make a special advisory? I see this going into land more near Wilmington. Or between Wilmington and Morehead?

What you're seeing is simply higher clouds partially obscuring the eye at times. It's not elongating.

Thanks panamatropicwatch for posting that. Front looks to be coming..hopefully fast enough to turn it before landfall. Sure looks like its going to be close though.

I do think the center is going to get pretty darn close to the Southport/Bald Head Island area. IMO

It should be making the NNE turn quite soon. It's still on the forecast track.

Wilmington had been in the cone for days. It should not surprise anyone if it makes landfall that far west

Very true. Though Wilmington is not under a Hurricane Warning.

even if it begun to make the gradual turn more.. still close enough to put the Wilmington area in portions of the nw eyewal...

Looking at recon, they've been finding 70 knot winds at 10,000 ft (flight level) not too far south of the coast...using a 0.8 reduction yields 56 knot surface winds (though SFMR was closer to 40 knots at the time). If those winds start being transported more efficiently to the surface, they might need to extend the hurricane warning southward...especially if Arthur gets closer to the coast than currently thought.
