At some point over the next few hours after it passes the NC coast that as it starts interacting with the trough more it may get a little stronger before becoming extratropical, IMO.

Oh yeah I wouldn't count this out getting to near cat 3 after it gets away from Hatteras and before it speeds up too much. After all for close to 24 hours it will lose the land interaction and still be over the warm Gulf stream with possibly less dry air and still low shear. It has had such a good tight circulation all along and they are tougher to break down.

I remember Hurricane Wilma restrengthened for the third time to Cat.3 status after crossing the Florida Peninsula on it's way out to sea!

I was just outside briefly (in a sheltered area away from possible missiles) and a gust almost knocked me over. I'd say that its pretty accurate.

Hurricane arthur reminds me of hurricane Wilma that hit florida in 2005. Does anyone think arthur could be a category 3 cane.

Possibly after it leaves NC, and before it reaches much more unfavorable conditions. It's a slim chance IMO.

Tide reading at Beaufort now running 2.4 ft above predicted level. Wrightsville peaked at about 2.6 ft above predicted. Wonder how high Beaufort will get. Things might be getting dicey in Atlantic Beach. Would it have been evacuated?

Just cause it's an early season hurricane and affecting the U.S. means nothing for the rest of the season!

Take care! Did the power come back on or is this a different viewpoint from your house?
