Looking at radar, the outer eyewall does appear to be contracting. That is a concern greatly to me that Matthew may be trying to intensify a bit once again.

Maybe just another example of Matthew avoiding land, and following the contours of it?

In retrospect, it fortunately for FL to this point looks like the NNW heading from last evening prevailed all night per NHC hourly updates (other than some NW/WNW wobbles) and is still the average direction. Crossing my fingers this turns to a northerly direction very soon.

What I initially thought was a wobble to the NW is now somewhat concerning. Anyone else seeing this on the first few daylight slides?

I know we have some members that are in Carteret County, NC. The school system just announced early release schedule due to the rain.

It appears to be paralleling the coast. Would be nice if it could wobble away since while avoiding the worst the shear amount of damage up and down the coastline is going to be costly.

Hey guys,

Here in St Aug by WGV, steady rains and sustained winds around 25-30 now some gusts to 40-45 so far. By looking at radar, looks like storm is gaining strength and moving more NW again straight towards us. Going to be an intense next 6-10 hours.

Before anybody thinks that Matthew is not a Major hurricane any more because pressure has risen a little bit this morning or because there is no official Cat 3 winds reported from the coast, recon keeps finding plenty of Cat 3 hurricane winds but on the northern and eastern quadrant, which is good.

Yeah. WGV I am becoming increasingly concerned aboutbwhat does look more of a NW motion of the eyewall now. Since the western outer eyewall brushed Cape Canaversl after 4:00 a.m. when I was monitoring it, the western eyewall has moved even closer to the coast.ooming at radar, you can ser that New Smyrna Beach may be touching the westernmost edge of the eyewall now. I am not liking this shift at all WGV and others. Also, the eyewall is trying to contract and thst is an ominous sign that Matthew is tring to intensify again.

Still moving NNW per recon fixes. Looks like we dodged a major hurricane coming ashore for FL but nobody northward should let their guard down!

I dont think Postel from the Weather Channel knows how to read recon data...

Recon shows 117mph surface winds on the last pass. He keeps 80-90 at the most from recon. Someone needs to help him...

Matthew has gotten closer to shore since last night.

Inside of the eye is only 5 miles offshore.

Also, although is very slight, forward motion is also beginning to slow just a bit. Now NNW at 12mph, was 15 mph at the time the eyewall passed. Cape Canaveral within the past 3 hours.
