Itwas an unbelievable picture. Trying to locate it.

I would assume it is due to freshwater flooding, since that is higher up from the sea near I-95.

Where are you seeing this? I have been trying to look and haven't found anything. Very worried about family and friends in Volusia and Flagler counties.

Thank you

I agree! When I first moved there everyone had the mentality that it could never happen here. Tybee hasn't been hit since the 1890's, I believe. Much if the island has been back filled overtime. There's not much to hold it together. Pretty sad if we lose the island and our friends, no matter how foolish.

That picture is from Fay 2008. A reminder that you need to know the real facts before believing or retweeting things on the internet...

Can you clarify what you mean by major damage? Do you mean windows / roof tiles etc OR do you mean total structure failure, flying roofs - i.e. is it bad like Andrew

Thanks and
BTW i live new Smyrna across street a1a from beach but have evacuated with family...

Thanks again and stay safe out there!!

Hola all! Long time lurker. I live about 5 minutes away from Indialantic / Melbourne Beach and wanted to share with you my experience of the storm overnight. We had only (1) squall come through yesterday afternoon and it lasted a good 15 minutes. Other than that it was quiet till 1:00am. According to this tweet from the NWS station in Melbourne, the first recorded hurricane (gust) was 88mph around 4:08am.

https://mobile.twitter.com/NWSMelbourne ... 8752183296

I'd imagine that there were other cat. 1 force guests before then that weren't recorded. That said, we probably only had high end tropical force sustained winds here. I took snapshots of the doplar radar and it looked like my area was just outside the bigger eye wall. We had sustained tropical storm force winds from 1:00am till 5:30am EST.

The house I was staying had zero structural or cosmetic damage to it. Not even one screen on the pool enclosure was blown out. The power flickered a few times but we never lost it. I drove around west Melbourne and Palm Bay Florida this morning and saw no structural damages to businesses or homes. Some trees were down and privacy fences down as well, but no street lights and shopping center signs blown out like when Francis and Jeanne hit.

I just wanted to say thank you to all to those who support and dedicate their time to this site. It has had invaluable information for my family and friends. I pray for those still in the line of this storm and those whom been affected.

Does it look to anyone else per radar that it's almost stopped moving north?

Looks like it's a bit stalled offshore Daytona when I watching it on radar.

Update from Jacksonville beach: winds don't seem to have changed much, consistent 40ish with occasional gusts of approx 55. Rain is coming down harder over the last hour, but still no flooding issues at my location approximately 1/2 mile from the beach. Power is good, no loss or even flickers yet. Directtv service is becoming spotty but still working about 2/3 of the time. No damage seen other than small to medium size limbs down in my immediate area. Will post further update as power allows.

Looks like a strong wobble to the NE on satellite just now but it could just be the burst of convection in the SE quadrant making it appear that way.

I just heard the Palm Bay mayor echoing that it was nothing like Jeanne and Frances there and around Melbourne. Of course my guess, and this is just a guess, is that areas north of that, from about Kennedy Space Center north thru New Smyrna and Daytona, will see worse effects from this than Frances and JeAnne, as those storms hit much further south and looking at old radar picks it appears their worst weather stayed Melbourne south in those.
