As of now the ecmwf still keeps it well below normal. And many are going to see above normal precip for August. There may be a hurricane spinning in the western gulf next week.

Of immediate concern is Texas coast residents needs to be on the ready.

The CPC highlights 8/6 to 8/9 as the period for much above normal precipitation. It may coincide with the BOC/WGOM tropical cyclone. Whether it hits Texas or not, there is an outlet of the weakness over the state to draw up moisture from it at the lower levels (if you recall what Joaquin did to South Carolina back in 2015). It's no guaranty but there is a path for very heavy rain for some next week. This week has been hit or miss with weaker disturbances but next week will be a different story.

Late run of the Euro also has another impressive cool air mass to bring down the plains.

:uarrow: This is just incredible for August. I just know we will pay for it with a scorching and bone dry September. Enjoy it while it lasts, this month should be fun.

Unfortunately, I fear the same. I don't remember the year here in Houston, but we ended up kind of like we are now in August with milder than normal and then had our hottest temperature ever in September. I DON'T WANT A REPEAT!! :double:

Just had a brief downpour. Glad that at least some rain fell in my yard this week.

Looking forward to tracking more widespread rainfall across the state over the next several days. Looks like a large part of Texas could see 1-3 inches by Wednesday (even including south central Texas)! Hopefully everyone can get in on the action this time.

I got home last night from California after a 9 day trip. Hit some heavy rain on way to Reno airport from the Sierras to the west. According to car during downpour just inside Nevada border, dropped from 102 degrees to 67 degrees in a matter of a few minutes!
:double:
Windy and gusty around the storms, trash and tumblweed flying around, pushing car around! Was telling Mrs. Weatherdude i felt like I was storm chasing! She gave me a look, and said to be careful.
That was a neat experience being in those monsoon-type rains.

Come home to find over an inch in the rain gauge since we left, grass looking lush! Very nice. :D
Looks like good chances the next several days! Nice welcome. :)

Interesting image!! Shows our possible tropical trouble to the South, which will probably stay there due to the incoming from the North. I' m wondering if Houston is going to lose out on the possibilities or get pounded. Both are possibilities if the pattern shifts about 100 miles either way.

Hoping the tropical system can nudge a little further north(nothing bad though) so our southern friends can join in on the rain. It looks so wrong seeing multi inch rain just north and south of you.

Man that last run of the GFS definitely leaves something to be desired for the southern half of Texas. Next!

Deep S. Texas either wants 90L to come farther north or stay weaker. The Euro solution would probably produce a lot of subsidence for that area. Meanwhile, us up here in N. Texas are getting ready for some August rain!
