Is that forecast at this point at all? Last I heard was it would head north maybe toward Columbus, so well west of Houston. That would put Houston on the wet side of the storm.

Starting to look more and more like it will get back to the GoM.

Just emptied my rain gauge again. From 10:30 p.m. to midnight got 1.6 inches. That's much more manageable. Rain's picking up again, though.

I am in Galveston, TX - just a few blocks from the Seawall. If you know the island, we are a couple of blocks behind The Spot. The area was spared ...mostly...during Ike. That Seawall is awesome. Our house is unfortunately on the ground floor. 2 inches of rain causes our street to look like Venice. Which is why I have been so surprised at our fortune. Our kitchen and living room flooded earlier - less than an inch - but we were able to get it all cleaned up. So far only brown outs - but internet etc has stayed on. And no rain ...well except a few squalls - since earlier today. The bands keep going on either side of us! But I understand that will change in a couple of hours. I should sleep - I bet tomorrow is going to be hairy. I know the main road here - Broadway is flooded both at the bridge going to Houston and at the Ferry going to Bolivar according to neighbors who drove around earlier. I believe people have been crossing but its not advised. I plan to stay put and ride this out We have all our stuff upstairs. Hopefully no tornadoes will hit us A tornado hit a neighbors home shortly after Ike hit. Their home survived the strike but was destroyed by the aftermath... you just never know. I think I will try to sleep...

You and all in the path please stay safe!

WHOA. That is WAY too much hyperbole at this point. We don't even know if it will be worse than Allison yet, let alone Katrina or the 1906 Earthquake. You do realize 3000 people died in that quake, right?

Given what the modeling and operational situation seems to be indicating, that hyperbole might not be so far fetched.

TV news just said they have opened a shelter in Friendswood because people's homes are flooding and people are stranded in their cars.

2004 Tsunami. No chance (thank G). This is the worst thing for Houston at least since Allison though. I sure hope it doesn't top that

Sorry - I don't recall what the exact words were, but on KHOU local news, the only mention of the woodlands that I heard was with regards to flooding, that they were doing OK. There was some concern about letting water out of Lake Conroe, however. I have not heard any more since.

KHOU just zoomed in on it and said "Not bad, not bad." Then moved onto areas being hit harder.

I would think it's highly likely it will be worse than Allison, but I'm no expert or based there.

Allison was 30 inches of rain. So that's what would have to be topped.

This will be more devastating than Allison IMO... more wide spread damage. The Bayou near my mother's home is already at record flood stage and they are still getting pounded with no end in site. (South Belt/45) area.

That 30 inches was in quite a small area IIRC.

It's possible. That and Alicia are the modern benchmarks for tropical damage in Houston.

Allison put "black mold" on the map and also led to recovery limitations.

Wasn't that in a relatively small area compared to this having much broader coverage?

I was in that area though so probably I've been thinking too much in terms of my neighborhood, rather than the whole state.

Possibly a break coming eventually to the Loop. Looks like next intensifying band is to the South. That should result in the next set of flood warnings.

The one overhead of SE Houston now isn't letting up for a while though.

Allison was pretty wide spread but in isolated pockets across the city.

Not sure if anyone has seen the GFS ensembles, but yeah...

They are taking a much more northeast path and spend more time over the Gulf. It has been trending this way throughout each run.

I posted them in the models thread
