We had a light sleet shower here for about 10 minutes. 32F so the ground isn't cold enough for accumulation.

Warm phases of the MJO showing up which would allow the Pacific Jet to crash into western North America, keeping Arctic Air bottled up north of the border

Yea, an active MJO moving through the IO should enhance the Pacific jet as it extends across the basin. That should result in more of a mean western trough. That probably decreases the chances of big cold but it should result in better rain chances. If the MJO stays active, then we could see a return to big cold later on as it cycles through 7/8.

Clouds held me up to 19 this morning. If we hit freezing it won't be by much, though I am thinking cloud cover may hold temps to the upper 20s. Flurries possible though unlikely with the significant dry layer around 850mb.

Correct me if wrong, but it seems like eons since South Texas/Houston has seen this much wintry precip and early in the season to boot. Crazy Texas winter so far!

It's very unfortunate we didn't get a pop through Phase 8-1, would've had our southern plains winter storm or two. Central into the northern southern plains has had quite a dud so far this winter!!

Any chance DFW gets any action this far north?

The CMC and Rgem models that are showing the snow later today keeps it confined to SE Texas.
The NAM is even showing a bit in Houston area for an hour or two later this evening.

Not enough moisture that far north, I'm afraid.

Is Austin in the same boat of being too far north?

Any post should not be taken as a forecast. I am just an amateur living the dream.
Re: Texas Winter 2017-2018
I can get used to this daily cold in DFW.
but I can't get used to continually getting teased with and inevitably getting duped with winter precipitation. It's been almost 3 years since we've had snowfall that wasn't like a quarter inch. It's disappointing. I'm staying optimistic though, I'm thinking the end of next week is going to be good to us up north here.

Too far away from the moisture source (Gulf). Focus for any light precip this evening will be SE TX.
