hey, at least we have another big rainmaker on the way Friday. Prelim. totals look to be around 1 - 3" across the eastern 2/3rds of the state.

So far... I've seen nearly 9" of rain since the start of meteorological winter in the Western Austin area...

JB is using Dallas as one of his 8 test sites for the upcoming weeks, for snowfall and temps. He expects temps to be -10F compared to climo and above average snowfall for those 8 starting at the end of January going into Feb. :froze:

Ok. No, I don't have premium. I do watch his daily videos. Nothing today, however.

Most of our winter won’t happen for a few weeks so not much to discuss, unfortunately...

Moisture associated with this is crossing the State tonight but the lower layers of the atmosphere are very dry across most of the state. Also, the main lift with the shortwave that picked up the Pacific moisture is passing well to our north.

I don’t know if the ground up here can even take anymore water. All of the fields are still lakes. Walking across my “front yard” you’ll sink to your ankles and since it’s gotten warm everything has that weird mildew smell. I vote no.

Yes it is!!!! Considering we are seeing daily records being set with the weakest mean zonal wind ever set at 10 hPa 60N (-8.8m/s, previous record was -5.1 m/s set in 1985), this shouldn't be too surprising to see on the long range models....it's a big time Strat Warm event that should have major consequences to NH weather moving forward. Once coupling occurs with propagation down to surface, would not be surprised to start seeing 1060 plus HPs showing up in Canada consistently on long range models!!

GEFS looking cold for the end of the month. Hopefully a storm or two will find its way under that big western ridge, but we are way too far out to start watching for that very seriously.

Went for a walk early this January morning before the sun was up and it was like 65 degrees. That shouldn't even be the high.

Enjoy it! After this warmup, it might be quite awhile before we see temps such as these!
