For those driving in the rain it was no fun I'm sure, but it was a great morning for me. Hadn't had such a nice morning this year.

Some rain trying to rotate into Dallas from the east. Will it make it? Odd setup.

Agreed. The blob of rain to the SE/E all day has been a tease to watch. It is rotating this direction slowly. We shall see.

SA finally had a rain event that brought over 1 inch! It's been too long.

Meanwhile here in Houston, had some big storms roll in around noon. Lots of damage around town, including a down power pole near the office.

I'm ready for the next round of rain! Will likely have to wait until next weekend.

It rained hard for about 5 minutes right after I posted earlier. I am about 3 miles east of DFW so I hope it does. Currently at the parking lot at Kroger and can see some lightning and dark clouds moving in.

4.77” final total here in the Austin area. Average for entire month 2.1”

. 9.9” YTD.

Yesterday’s 3.4” was also the daily biggest rain total since 1976 for month of April.

Last time Austin saw this much rain on consecutive days in April? 1946. 73 years ago.

It’s sad to see it leave

I got a total of 2.1 inches at my house in south Cedar Park/NW Austin area from yesterday and this morning. Most rain I have seen since early January. Very nice!

0.43” of rain this weekend. We need more but with it comes the plagues of gnats. This question is more for the people that live out in the country. Every time outside of winter when it rains do y’all experience the billions of biting gnats? I thought the mosquitoes were bad during wet stretches but the gnats are 10x worse than mosquitos ever are. It gets so bad that we have to wear netted face masks outside during chores.

Spartan Mosquito Tubes. Get a few. They work beautifully.

I know this isn't weather-related, but I'm hoping TECH wins the NCAA championship! It's my alma mater. I would have never dreamed I would say NCAA FINALIST. Win or lose, I'm so happy for them! :)

Are they for gnats as well? How many for 1200 acres?

So...one thing I've been hearing a lot about Houston's weather in the recent month is about capping inversions, and I have heard that's why spring severe weather in Houston tends not to include all the really powerful tornadoes you see further up north in Texas. But this makes me wonder...what exactly causes this capping inversion to begin with, and why is it stronger in Southeast Texas versus further inland/north?

(This might seem kind of random but I've been sitting on a LOT of weather-related questions lately because I haven't had any good opportunities to ask them...and since a lot of people are talking about SE Texas severe weather seems a good time to ask.)

I found an old S2K thread that alludes to the capping inversions in general. Also a link explaining the CAP as it relates to Dallas, and how the westerlies shift north during the season from the south (S/SE Texas to north Texas), bringing the CAP influence with it.
