Re: ATL: DORIAN - Hurricane - Discussion
That's one of the more rapid drops in a while. Unless an EWRC takes over soon I don't think we are close to bottoming out. At that rate will likely see an even further drop on subsequent passes.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Looks can be deceiving but many times they aren't. Dorian is doing it appeared to be doing...undergoing explosive intensification.

Looks like it already is.

I could see him going for Wilma's records of pressure and also record for wind speed the way he is going when he hasn't hit the Gulf Stream yet.
Could we see a storm get into the 870's and winds around 200?? Highly unlikely but I don't think we can rule it out yet, the way he is intensifying way more than anyone thought.

I highly doubt it. The only place in this basin that could support that would be the western Caribbean

Recon just turned north bound from SE side of Dorian. Should have VDM anytime now.

Barring unexpected mitigating factors 930s seems guaranteed and I wouldn't be shocked to see 920s or maybe lower given the time it has left over warm water.

Labor Day of 35 got pretty close in the area. That being said I agree it is unlikely.

Let's not get carried away. There is no need to cause undue panic.

"The dropsonde in #Dorian's eye measured a pressure of 951mb with a 13 kt wind, so the accurate pressure is probably ~950mb."

At its current state, it's not likely at the moment. It's a rather mature system now with a very clear, large eye.
Not surprised recon found deeper pressures given the quick warming of the eye some hours ago and its relative latitude during RI working the inner core. All in Florida should not take this storm lightly.
