Watching Michael was like this. A beast that couldn't be stopped. Man, L or M is the new I it seems...

It says maximum wind threat, so a graphic showing what is possible depending on where the storm has landfall. It does not show probability.

There is some shear right in the area where Laura is projected to landfall.

As they should. My family is in Beaumont and my brother is leaving today (should have left very early this morning). He had cops knocking on his door yesterday telling them they had to go. He explained they were leaving in the morning and the cops went on to the next house. Some people will ignore the order, my dad is staying because my grandfather refuses to leave and he wont leave him alone.

That can't be correct.
Agreed. I think that has to be from an earlier projection of landfall being further west than the current prognostication.

Google Maps shows traffic as being pretty light in this area and further inland. I guess most people who were going to leave must have left yesterday.

For the old guard this is very similar to what happened to both Katrina and Rita back in 2005, pace of intensification is keeping up with those two as well at the moment, though it won't have quite as much time as those two.
I keep thinking farther back to Charley in 2004...

The first hurricane I ever tracked on this site though i wasn't quite a member yet (Charley was the push i needed), Charley certainly was amazing, though that was one of those small rapid spin ups. This is more akin to a Rita/Katrina given its larger size.
Cool to see the soundings showing there is some shear by the coast, as others have said though its probably going to make little real difference by that point.

Two towers 180-degrees apart.
Perfect position for optimum core heating.
Still building cirrus on top of the CDO.
No sign from this perspective of any slow down in intensification.

I'm not sure its really in that group, I mean its likely to come in as a 4, maybe top end 3. It'll be up there with Harvey/Katrina for the 2nd strongest Gulf landfalling hurricane since 2000, I hope it doesn't approach what Michael did!
Have to say its CDO really has become rather large now, and indeed the whole system has definately increased in size in the last 12-18hrs.

The question is, what is this map going to look like when the updated intensity and size is taken into account?

Re: ATL: LAURA - Hurricane - Discussion
The wording in the 15z advisory is going to be severe. We'll likely have a borderline-CAT 4 with a cleared eye by then at this rate.
