Hardly. Have a pool of 300 or so eligible names and off you go. Add a year number, and we’re done here. Or just keep it numerical, storm ONE of 2020. Etc...

In hindsight this probably would have been the better system, just numbers. Fun fact, this is the system that North Korea uses for WPAC

There’s a reason the NHC doesn’t use numbers for storms you know...

Edit^^: You can’t compare the naming system of a country that experiences less frequent landfalls per year than one that does.

You mean aside from the fact that just numbers would be boring?

From the official page on naming of tropical cyclones:

The only time that there is a change is if a storm is so deadly or costly that the future use of its name on a different storm would be inappropriate for obvious reasons of sensitivity.

I think the current naming/retirement system works just fine, not need to change it. I'd recommend adding Y and Z names, to make it more difficult to get to the Greek Letters. We can also use EPAC names (Lowell, Marie, Norbert,...), since they won't be using all those names anyway. Just need to be careful with the names Celia, Dora and Hilda.
Using names is also much less confusing than using numbers. Imagine using 09L instead of Irma, Ivan, Isabel, Isidore, Iris, Igor, Ingrid, Ike and Irene, even adding the year (like 09L-2001/2002/2003...)

Sally's doing her best to get herself retired.

If I were to choose a replacement for Sally, my first choice would be Stefanie. Next best are Susan and Shelby.

The damage from Sally is already looking severe, and the worst of the flooding is yet to come for most regions. At this point, I'd be very surprised if 2020 isn't both the first and last time a storm is named Sally.

Yeah I think so far we have 2 storms up for retirement this year in Laura and Sally, evidently Bermuda didn't have that much damage from Paulette only if she completes her loop of the Atlantic and comes back and hits land somewhere then she might be up for retirement due to the historic track and possible damage. We still have 3 months left and about to enter the Greek letters then we would have to do the Greek Letter and year I guess for retirement reasons.

I think it's extremely likely that Sally is retired.

I think Dorian, Laura and Sally will be retired from lists 5 and 6.
I'd replace them with Damian, Lucy and Susan.

I’m surprised you don’t have sally as a shoe-in. Given the more populated area it hit, and significantly longer duration of effects, I would imagine Sally’s cost will be well above Laura’s.

I'd want to see better numbers before raising the likelihood.

Shave off about 20% from Isaias and add it to Sally's total. Then I'm in agreement
