Re: WPAC: GONI - Typhoon
This storm may be approaching Hagibis strength. I would estimate the peak winds (at least within the last couple of hours considering a possible ERC) have achieved 160-165 knots.

I would probably put Goni's peak at 160kts. I still think Hagibis was a little stronger than 160kts but they are pretty close for me

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Let's see if JTWC upgrades it to 160 for the 0z update if that CDG ring persists for just a little longer...

I think it will be close. We'll have to see if the EWRC is in full swing by then.

Wow, 190 kt! The actual 1-min sustained winds are probably a little lower, but that’s incredible.

JTWC keeps Goni at 180 mph but the pressure is now at 904 MB

We have a CDG ring folks! Perhaps this is enough for the JTWC to give a rare upgrade to 160 kt.

190 knot gusts is right on the money with the JTWC prognosis for the 12z update with 155 knot sustained

CDG ring?
Cold Dark Grey, the color on the Dvorak scale used for the coldest and deepest cloud tops (<-80C). The most intense Cat 5s have had CDG rings — Wilma, Patricia, Gilbert, Haiyan, Nida, Cimaron, Hagibis, Halong, etc.

Oh no, the CDG rings sound very violent in storms.

A full CDG ring is a T8.0 on Dvorak, the highest you can get, basically the perfect storm. Like Haiyan and Patricia

Dorian in 2019 was very close to the T8.0
