Appears to be 85kt Cat 2 with a 115kt Cat 4 peak forecast. 85kts is pretty low... They've been really conservative with this one

No, It is a 90kt and 970mbar Cat 2 now.

That makes sense. Must have looked at the wrong line lol

Winter 2020-2021 :cold:

All observations are in Tecumseh, OK unless otherwise noted.

Winter posts are focused mainly for Oklahoma & Texas.

Take any of my forecasts with a grain of salt, refer to the NWS, SPC, and NHC for official information

Perhaps my post provided the impetus for the change, eh.
(It may have been purely coincidental, but I prefer to think otherwise. :D )

Anyway, back to the topic at hand: Eta.

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Likely approaching major hurricane status. Hints of a stadium effect starting to set up.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Yep this is looking bad. Doesn't look like this will be hitting any speed bumps until landfall unlike what we saw with Delta when we thought a Cat 5 was possible. Eye is rapidly warming on this little powerhouse. I think Cat 4 is pretty certain. Not sure it has time for a 5 but I'm not writing this off until it is over land.

I really hope its impact in CA won't be that big, but Eta just seems to be firing on all cylinders at the moment. I can't imagine this being anything less than a strong cat 4 during landfall. After Laura and Delta who just didn't make it, I'm a bit reluctant to explicitly say the number 5, but if it keeps going like this I don't think anything can stop it from getting there.

Ensembles have been pretty consistent with stronger solutions spending less time in CA.

Oh my god the eye is warming up so fast. I’m thinking my conservative peak estimate is going to be VERY conservative...

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.
