A tropical wave located over the central Caribbean Sea continues to
produce a large area of showers and thunderstorms. Satellite
imagery indicates that the disturbance is gradually becoming better
organized, and a tropical depression will likely form within the
next couple of days as it moves slowly westward over the central
and western Caribbean Sea. Regardless of development, this system
is expected to bring heavy rainfall along with possible flash
flooding to portions of Hispaniola over the next day or so. For more
detailed information, refer to products issued by your local weather
office.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...80 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...90 percent.

Where?

The eddy is coming over in the NE at about 10 o'clock
the wave is coming through the middle of the convection as a line form N to S
the gyre is the whole counterclockwise turn in the area

Maybe the eddy gets dragged into the convection and sparks an llc

Nothing remotely closed at the surface yet however it appears to me that some mid to lower COC may be trying to consolidate around 15N & 71.5W. It's evolution is still quite fluid though.

Looks like future Iota will track very close to Jamaica by the time it forms.

It almost looks like a giant windscreen wiper now that I look at it. On a more serious note, the rotational energy of this system really increased a lot today. Yesterday when I last checked the visuals I couldn't spot any rotation yet, but it's clear as day now.

If Iota doesn't crash into CA directly(which is increasingly likely the case), it could end up to be the strongest storm of the season.

No kidding

That could be a catastrophic ending too since they are still picking up from Eta.

Here are some pictures of what it looks like in Northern Guatemala currently.

There are still a lot of people missing, many assumed buried by the numerous large landslides that occurred last week.
