Satellite-derived wind data suggested that the northern area was pretty close to closing off a circulation this morning, but there’s still a bit of rotation in both the low- and mid-levels down south.

Based on that wind data from this morning and satellite trends this afternoon, I think if we see a circulation close off in this wave it will be up north. This will have some important implications from a track perspective, and by association for the intensity forecast. ...

What’s most likely at this point is probably a track very similar to PTC6 and Elsa through the northern Lesser Antilles before heading towards Hispaniola. ...

It’s also possible that the system tracks farther north through the SW Atlantic. While there’s plenty of warm water here, preliminary indications show the potential for more wind shear which would hamper its ability to intensify.

There is currently a big convective burst directly over the center, and the convection on the east side looks like it is trying to wrap in. Easterly shear doesn't have to decrease much since it is currently moving west at a good clip

Check out the moisture with 95L - it has a nice plume out ahead of it AND is bringing up deep moisture from the Amazon Basin

At this rate having Grace by the end of today may not be a very far-fetched scenario.

NHC is only predicting a 45 knot peak.

Looking like another anemic system in the Atlantic.

I would think the quicker this thing gets its act together, the better chance it has at going N of the Greater Antilles. Looks to be doing good even with the shear right now.

NHC track goes right over Hispaniola. Probably why the peak is only 45kts

It's because it goes over the islands, but if it gets stronger faster, it may lift more north and that could allow for additional strengthening. Initial PTC forecast cones typically change a lot afterwards.

I wonder if it'll be the fate of every MDR system to end up over Hispaniola this year? Looks like a carbon copy of Fred to me.

Seems like the NHC is not yet onboard with the GFS (looks like the HWRF/HMON runs from last night). This cone will probably change and shift more north in time.

GFS is very capable of underestimating the ridging, will see on this one

We could very easily see shifts both to the north or south, most likely to the north because of the GFS operational run and ensembles.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Yeah, that would ensure it stays anemic.

No mention of shear by NHC by days 4 and 5? The GFS and CMC so the shear and I assume the Euro does too if I could access,
