This is in new orleans

It actually backs up because the GOM tidal surge becomes so high, relative to the river height, the Mississippi river flow gets stonewalled where it meets the GOM. And conversely, the GOM tidal surge runs up into the river. It is really a phenomena to witness. It only happens in these rare intense Major hurricane events that come into SELA.

Thats really cool thanks for that

Im guessing the stonewalled water makes the river very high

He was just on the weather channel.

Rewound it to make sure it was 148 mph.

Gust or sustained? Elevation?

He just said they recorded 148 mph and then the wind gauge broke.

I'd argue that Ida looks the best she has looked in a few hours. Cold cloud tops still firing in all quads.

I'm trying to draw a mental picture of that?! One would think the net result would be for that section of the Mississippi to then completely over-wash it's banks as a result??

Wow the outer eyewall and inner eyewall have simply started melding. Lightning still going bonkers in the core. This would've made a solid run at cat 5 if it had a few more hours. Grand Isle looks like they will in fact get the eastern eye wall.
