I am so sorry to hear this! A similar thing happened to my uncle during Hurricane Michael. EMS couldn’t help him either. I will be praying for the lady.

Eye drop supports 938. Looks like its past its peak. Doesn't change any impacts though whatsoever

If the wind sensors don’t catch a Fist of God they won’t catch the true power of this hurricane.

Recon is going to try to make another pass before the eye is too far inland to make another one.

Eye drop is pretty dry (49% at 850mb), but I’m not sure if that’s due to another EWRC trying to start, or because the eye is so close to land.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Personally I think Ian peaked at 140 kts around 8 am this morning. The CDO started to warm after that. I think a little weakening occurred if you can call it that at these intensities. I agree with CrazyC83’s assessment of 130 kts at landfall as being reasonable.

Regardless the surge, rain, and wind impacts will be identical as 10 mph make little difference when at Cat 4 and higher strength.

Hopefully. I thought it peculiar they ascended and went over land instead of heading west. Maybe to get another center pass in shorter time? Doesn’t matter to impacts obviously but it would feel like a miss to not sample that west quadrant

Thank you. I don't remember ever hearing a story so terrible.

We are hunkered down at our church. My husband and another fellow with a 1 ton 4-wheel p/u offered to go get her, but she will not leave him.

There will be many more stories like this....

With how wide and robust the eyewall is, Sarasota and possibly even Bradenton may get into the core of the storm down the road, the only plus side is the wind direction there would blow water away from the shore

I think the S and SW eyewall are where will deliver the nastiest punch. Fort Myers Beach is getting absolutely clobbered and Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda aren't seeing much yet.
