Track-wise, this reminds me of the first Hurricane I worked after arriving at WFO MLB...Erin in '95, which was also a Cat 1 landfall along the Florida east coast in the same general area.

The buoy 20miles east of Port Canaveral is reporting near hurricane force gusts and seas in excess of 30ft.
https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page. ... tion=41009
30 ft is on the high end of theoretical wave height there given the depth.
I will be surprised if Cocoa Beach pier is intact tomorrow morning

Brevard County now getting hit by the northern eyewall, eye center about to make landfall close to Vero Beach.

With my amateur eyes, it looks like Nichole is tightening up as she is making landfall. Good thing she is running out of water.
For coastal Brevard county, conditions still may deteriorate further. Fortunately the worst is happening during low tide, minimizing storm surge and beach erosion problems.

Watching Reeds stream right now as he's in the northern eyewall and it's a tad underwhelming relative to what I was expecting.

If Josh Morgerman stayed in Jensen Beach he missed the eye center, I hope he took my advise to get to Vero Beach.

Near Vero Beach official landfall, great job by the models that showed a more northward landfall.

I'd expect the NHC to declare landfall here any moment.
Edit : they beat me to it.

Vero Beach airport reported calm winds and pressure down to 981.8mb, 79 degrees with 79 degrees dewpoint, pure tropical.
Things are going to be a lot more windy here in Orlando than expected with that more northerly track.

How would we expect the SLS to hold up to this? Any real threat or is it just not strong enough?
