Eric Webb is not your friend on Twitter if you want colder weather.

Not at all and he is pretty smart with weather patterns. One of those type guys who don't have to study much and still makes all A's lol

I’m not saying winter is over by any means just cuz one person on Twitter is saying so. Several other well respected people are saying the opposite.

Yeah anyone saying winter is over when it literally just began a few weeks ago is not very smart. I remember hearing the same nonsense right before the Feb 21 cold outbreak.

As much as I follow Webb and hold his views in high regard, I don’t think we can cancel winter based on what he’s saying. If his ideas come to fruition it more likely means we wouldn’t see some long duration arctic blast that shows up several weeks in advance. Feels to me like saying there would be no Atlantic majors in an upcoming hurricane season because an El Niño is forecast. Makes it less likely, but doesn’t rule out something squeaking through a generally unfavorable pattern that the models don’t sniff out until a week or less in advance.

You also have to take into context what Webb is saying. +EPO/-TNH January as his posts suggest typically reverts back to -PNA and cold dumping into the High plains instead of the +PNA east coast. That's the audience he seems to be gearing at. SE ridge La Nina, but for us you dump cold into the northern plains, chances are it will bleed. No doubt if we were living on the East coast expecting a winter of blockbuster nor'easters the cutters are showing this is not the winter for that. La Nina +PNA is just no good.
Just like in December it averages warmth but there's that very sharp, cold bleed of cold in the interior of the country.

Well then ntxw. Sounds more encouraging coming from you because February was good last winter to us so hopefully this February give us a few opportunities at snow/ice here then.

La Nina is La Nina, to expect something drastically different is fool's gold. Montana, the Dakotas and the high Rockies are cold in La Nina. The south and east is warm. Sometimes that cold bleeds out and areas west of the Mississippi tends to get effected the most. Webb isn't saying anything different than to expect a Nina outcome.

Knowing what we know about La Nina there eventually is going to be another cold surge in the northern regions.

The strong PV gets attacked this week. Models are seeing more significant warming up there by the coming weekend. Sometime mid month we may see a good displacement and/or split. Some time after that the AO typically responds with a big dive going by past events. It took until early-mid February back in 2021 after the late Dec/Jan event.

Some of those are getting stronger. Good for the southeast and east. I am jealous.

It just seems to me like it’s getting pushed back and the window is shrinking. I’ve been on the Jan 20th to Feb 20th bandwagon for about 3 weeks now but now it’s looking like late January at the earliest.

It’s almost always north and east of me lately. The only way I get anything from these types of setups is if the trough digs down really far south into Mexico or south Texas and that rarely happens.
Good thing I don’t really need the rain right now though.

There is also a current major torch going on in Europe. The Pacific/EAJ is really pumping the warmth into the mid lats.

Positive post while it's mild.
It can snow in this pattern. Very hard to do but around the 10th of January 2021 it did happen. You need a weakness underneath the eastern ridge and a strong system to help generate some cold aloft. This was Waco's 5". Warm before and after system.
