FYI we may challenge all time max temps on Sunday.

I noticed on FWD's forecast matrix that they're showing a wind shift to the N and then E on Sunday. Is that legit? If so maybe that helps to shave a degree or so from the worst of it. Still, 108 doesn't feel better than 110. Might as well go for some truly historic heat if we're going to get that close.

Currently 106.5F IMBY (North Dallas). +2.1 to same time yesterday...when I maxed out at 112.3. Ugh.

Winds may very shift Sunday, however that's when the ridge truly flexes beyond 600dm. Where it's hot even to the north and east, doesn't help.

I am so over this summer.

On a side note, I am very interested in the Tempest WeatherFlow weather station he advertises. I've seen all good reviews. Anyone on here have one of those stations? I know it's on the pricier side, but looks so easy to install. Just wondering how it holds up to hail(?). Right now, it would only track the daily max records and heat index!

I've had one for a few years now and have never had any issues with it. Solar powered, doesn't need batteries. Detects lightning. Seems to be accurate with rainfall and temperatures. I think mine reads dewpoints a bit too high. I can't speak to wind measurements, since I have too many trees in my neighborhood to ever gauge how accurate that is. Definitely recommend!

Awesome, good to hear/see! With the wind, that is my issue too, lots of trees around my yard and houses not far apart, but only one large one and a few medium ones in mine. Just not enough space, and roof has gutters all around. I figure I would put it on a fence post in my yard that is open to the sky where I already have a CoCoRaHS rain gauge. The roof edge would be ideal for wind and cool to see speed and direction, but not sure that'll happen in my yard. Plus, may get radiated heat from roof(?). Anywho. Thanks for the feedback! May ask for it as a Christmas wish present.

There are cases where the SOI does not matter, and this is sadly one of them.

Aside from the hell heat, is anyone else’s area also dealing with insane plagues of grasshoppers and locusts? Whatever trees the heat isn’t getting, the grasshoppers are.

DFW sitting at 108 as of 3:00p. This summer seems like our daily high temps have been occurring later in the day than most summers (just my perception). Lots of cases we peak closer to 5:00 than normally I think of 3:00-4:00 being the max. Might make a run at 110, if not today then tomorrow.

Not sure I buy the hourly reports coming out of Comanche. Currently 116F, and they've had a lot of days this summer > 110F. Feels a little off, even being in a region where they're naturally going to be a little hotter.

Agree with the others about the comparisons to 2011. For DFW even with 71 days >= 100, only 19 were >= 105. This summer DFW has already had 16 (including today), with surely more to come.

Bottom line: this sucks. Sept (probably mid-Sept at that) needs to get here. Stat.

Not sure we will have to wait that long necessarily. If the 12z Euro is right about the EPAC crossover and the shifting ridge, we could have another system in the Gulf soon. The Euro shows it strengthening too which is interesting.

With no major pattern shift on the horizon, this summer looks to outpace last summer on 100 days in dfw by next weekend. At this rate we could end up #3 or 4 on the all time list

If we reach 110+ today that would beat any summer since 2000 for max high. Unbelievable. Last summer was 4th warmest average. No El Nino year occupies top 5. Only 2006 is #10.

And what I remember from summer 2000 was that it really started kinda late, but once it got going it was insane. Labor Day weekend was brutal. IIRC on Labor Day it was already 100 by 10:00a on the way to 111.

But the glimmer of hope for us (I know it was 23 years ago and a lot has changed) was that within a couple of weeks after that we got rain again, and the fall was gloriously cold and wet. Nov 2000 is the coldest average max and 3rd wettest. By December it was ice storms, long periods below freezing, and snow on New Year's Eve.

The Grasshoppers destroyed my Peppers but left everything else alone.

I do have a lot of Crickets though, most in years.

Saw another interesting factoid from a local TV met and confirmed by our NWS office … Austin this summer has had the most number of hours at or above 100° in recorded history. We’re at 279 hours. Apparently even 2011 can’t match it.

Not surprised. Feel bad for the farmers & ranchers and wildlife & plants. The period from 2011 to now has been brutal. Texas A&M forestry estimated 300 million (or more) trees lost in 2011. I'm sure many more were lost in 2021 Snowpocalypse and the 2023 ice storms.

You bring up some good points. Yeah, our poor trees and plants in these last 10-15 years have faced an onslaught haven’t they?! It has been brutal.

My friend, I have yet to learn same ole mistakes, if you don't predict warmer than normal 7/10 times you will be wrong . It's just so tough to get below normal on a seasonal scale.
