Texas Fall 2024

Got another 0.47" on Sunday with some passing spotty showers. Ended up with almost 1.5" with this rain event being mostly over for my area it seems.

Forecast highs in the 80s for the first week in September. Very nice.

I have received nothing until yesterday, when I got 0.03. Another 0.01 so far early this morning. Sun shining now. I shut my irrigation off based on the hype from the TV mets and EWX that we would have multiple inches of rain starting Friday going through Tuesday. Meanwhile, my grass has developed dry patches and some plants were starting to droop Sunday. Watered the plants. Still hoping I don't need to water the grass yet. But I'm not banking on it. We must be in the dry slot of this low pressure in west Texas. Lucky me!

Good news is parts of the hill country upstream of Buchanan and Travis have been flooding. Some of that may get down there.

Guess I should have kept my system on, and washed my car!lol

Up to an inch now IMBY in north/FW/Saginaw, so although it started out with disappointment, it made up for it here in Tarrant. Sorry that it looks like Dallas is not as lucky so far, though looks like they had some showers this morning.

Here in GP we've had a steady rain since about 7. Nothing heavy but at least it's been consistent. And the temp is glorious. The a/c has been on maybe twice all morning.

The only reason the high for today will be in the 80s is because it was that warm at midnight. No way we're getting back there.

It was a day later than what it looked like last week on models but it did come. Think it was 82F past midnight but low to mid 70s currently.

DFW was just beginning a period that saw 110F peak last year around the first week or so. Nothing like that and much more seasonable. With any ridge largely to the west, a couple of 90s here and there can't be ruled out but much closer to what a typical Sept should be. And lows in the 60s...and not low 80s.

With any ridge largely to the west, a couple of 90s here and there can't be ruled out but much closer to what a typical Sept should be. And lows in the 60s...and not low 80s.

Yeah I saw 60s this weekend with a drop in humidity. Good time for some yard work.

* Flash Flood Warning for... Llano County in south central Texas...

* Until 915 PM CDT.

* At 639 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.

SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. 5.65" has fallen at LCRA gauge in Llano in the past 3 hours.

IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Kingsland, Llano, Gainesville, Granite Shoals, Horseshoe Bay, Buchanan Lake Village, Castell, Lone Grove, Stolz, Oxford, Baby Head, Valley Spring, Bluffton, Tow, Field Creek and Sunrise Beach Village.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

I am concerned that later in the fall, we may see a renewed southern branch jet stream. That may lead to cooler temperatures and more rainfall from Texas through the Deep South and along the Eastern Seaboard. And could ultimately upend the mild winter outlooks for the DJF time frame. We shall see.”

I don't follow why he is concerned about rain and cooler temperatures in Texas? That sounds like a good thing to me?

Loving this early start to fall! 80s every day except tomorrow forecast to just hit 90F. Comfortable/cool evenings and mornings. Hope those that need rain continue to get some.
