THIS^ Is why after 52 yrs of living on the Gulf Coast, and watching Katrina blow up overnight... The one thing I'm sure of, is never underestimate these storms.

If something happens to weaken one, then Thank God!

Just don't take the chance, get the heck out of dodge and enjoy the change of scenery.

I've NEVER heard anyone stay to ride out a bad one and say afterward they don't regret it.

Things hit harder, and an extra terror sets in when you are sitting there hearing, FEELING, the winds and pressure rip your roof off. Or when the water just keeps rising, the attic is no longer an option and your only choice is the roof

Quick question regarding storm surge. Does a faster storm mean stronger surge? I know the larger the hurricane, the higher the waves but does speed play a role as well? I imagine it probably does.

Yep the 951 is legit. If it keeps this up it will landfall in the low 930s or upper 920s.

A couple of people doesn't equal whole population. There's are always going to be some no matter where.

Always the ugly side whenever we critique a storm is underperforming. The longer it takes to struggle, then the closer to landfall it will inevitably bomb out. Which means those in its path will face a strengthening hurricane instead of one that peaked earlier and is likely weakening.

I think we're probably going to get our cat4 landfall. Pressure could drop another 10-15 mb's or more in the next 8-12 hours as it makes landfall...Nasty.

Crazy that the pressure dropped 7 mb in just one and half hours. Just crazy!

Maybe the HAFS models weren’t so crazy when they started throwing around the 900-920mb runs.

How low can she go? :double:

I'm guessing she either nears or just exceeds Michael in pressure at landfall, not wind. Hopefully everyone's fled by then.

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

We'll see how much she intensifies. Again, I was not concerned about the slot of dry air. With a storm like this in an environment like this, was never really a problem. More to come in the next several hours. Stay safe everyone.

To be fair, this is what it's supposed to do in this kind of environment. It has had some issues with dry air and structure that delayed/impeded intensification for 12 hours or so, but those seem to be mostly resolved. And sat imagery doesn't even show a clean eye yet, it's got headroom to get better.

Interestingly they are reporting the eyewall as ragged:
