How crazy is it that the forecast has Helene at Cat 2 almost to Atlanta!

Are they prepared for this that far into Georgia?

This could be one of the most destructive hurricanes to hit Georgia. And it's not even from a hurricane hitting from the southeast. People inland might be caught off guard with Helene. Hope for the best.

Me neither and I used to live near there. Dove sure, squirrel yeah, no crows or seagulls though, yuck.

Helene is east and slightly south of track center right now

Based on the image you posted, the radar return looks to be right on the track. The ‘wind’ that is showing on that picture that is south and east is from a computer model.

very slight. Big isn't the world i would use. Maybe 2 miles east

I dunno looks like a sudden lurch of 1/4 to 1/3 a line of longitude to me, which would be ~15-20 miles. Thing is, it might have bounced west-ish before that, making it look like it's diverting more from the track it was on.

My barometer has leveled off at 993 here in Clearwater for the last hour or so, which tracks with the eye being just south of 110 miles due west of me.

Georgia is hardly prepared for a hurricane along the coast... much less inland. Michael did significant damage in SW GA, and absolutely leveled the pecan industry there. I fear Helene's impacts in parts of Georgia will very heavy.

Intense lightning all over the eyewall. There is a mesoscale vortex feature in the western eyewall that looks like a legitimate supercell. It's huge.

Going to guess recon will find 945-949mb extrapolated, 120-125 kt FL, 105-110 kt SFMR. Winds (and especially SFMR) have been lagging behind pressure all day.

If we're gonna call our shots I'll say 943mb with a 120kt FL and 110 SFMR.

Helene is part of a massive circulation over the entire Southeast U.S.

We thought this would hold back the storm w/negative shear or dry air. Nope. Helene turned the tables to its advantage instead drawing baroclinic energy from the deep-layer trough. Really bad.
