Unfortunately it seems Helene has claimed its first US fatality as a sign fell on a driver on I4. My heart goes out to the nature coast and Perry in particular, this is pretty much a worst case scenario for them with two major hurricanes making landfall this past year from Idalia to Helene.

Power is out at my house in north Tallahassee. My robot vacuum is no longer responding. That was my litmus test to see when power/internet went out. lol

It’s about to get quite ugly there in about an hour or so. 100mph winds or higher, good luck

Watching a bunch of chasers out in the open near Perry. Can't help but wonder how many will get hurt with this, Perry is not that far inland.

Hopefully the brief land interaction with the Yucatan will slow things down for a bit, but I'm guessing the effect will be marginal at best. Before it enters the Gulf, anyone want to guess at what Helene's' peak pressure/wind speed will be? I'm gonna go with with 915mb/160kt, though if I were setting an O/U line I'd probably put it around 935mb/130kt right now

Case in point why it's always better to be the oddsmaker than the gambler... :spam:

Yeah, it is starting to kick in pretty hard here on Tally
at the hotel. Pretty sure the hotel is running on generator.

Yeah. That’s a few pages back now but Hall’s site reported it. Copic is live in Taylor County.

Checking in from Valdosta, bracing for hurricane conditions (hopefully not the eastern eyewall). Winds are starting to pick up here. Family in Jacksonville will be in a better situation than I am lol (besides tornadoes). Praying for all in Helene's path. She is for sure intensifying up to landfall. Lots of lightning.

It’s definitely jogged west, almost like it’s intentionally trying to maximize its time over the water.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

Also may be becoming almost the worst case scenario for Tallahassee, only worse would've been had it come in to the west of the city. In this case though looks like many winds are lopsidded on the west anyways so Tallahassee may get blitzed. They maybe should extend the extreme wind warning into Leon county as well...

9pm update was 939 at 140MPH I think she has top out with only a hour or less before landfall. Not that it makes any difference.

It appears the crew doesn't want to test the plane's safety by venturing into the NW Eyewall  :cold:

Rainfall near Asheville NC is going to be catastrophic, they've already had 8in over the past 24hrs and are forecasted to get 12in+ over the next day. All that water running down the mountains is going to exacerbate flash flooding that's already taking place there.
