Maybe for Katy but for DFW Feb. is actually the snowiest month and about every 4 to 5 years we get snow or ice in March. In fact since 2000 DFW has had at least a trace of snow in February 18 times

rylo7956 im talking about the state as a whole , its looking pretty above normal in february for a good chunk of the US , MJO goes into unfavorable phases, teleconnections are all positive, youre going to have a really tough time getting winter weather further south than the panhandle in that kind of a pattern, we will see if anything changes, but for now guidance for sure is favoring a pretty warm february for a good chibk of the southern us including texas

I mentioned this the other day but I am watching next weeks system for those of us in NW Texas and Oklahoma. There is some support of a winterstorm on the GEFS early next week. We need the trough to kick out and not meander on the west coast.Something to watch.

The one thing that doesn't help our cause if you're looking for more cold is the AO is trending big positive while the EPO dives a little more negative for another week before trending positive at the end of the month and that's when our warming trend looks to really get going.

The +AO/-EPO argues for a split flow pattern so not sure how much cold can be pulled down with these southern systems, but I would say the panhandle/far west TX is probably the more favored area with perhaps a little more active setup for rain/few storms across areas south into central/east tx. Cooler weather looks to hang around for another week but doesn't look like anything we just experienced

Cross Polar Flow piling up Arctic Cold in our source region of NW Canada end of week 2, too premature to write off winter quite yet. With cold air lurking like this, all it takes is a big system to dig into the desert southwest/tap into the air across the northern tier...usually is our best southern plains February recipe!!

Apparently my giant heat lamp malfunctioned overnight and I woke up to a light coverage of snow. Maybe half inch in the deepest spots. This i don't really mind as it doesn't stick around too long.

My attention and excitement turns to this weekend's rain chances!!!

Okay, it happened, I didn’t want snow here around Houston. But since we got our once in a decade amount, not as bad as I feared , I’m ready for the next one…. Do you think there is a snowballs chance we get hit twice this year?

Today we broke the 2017 record in Beaumont of 3". There was one year in 1895 of 30" recorded, but that's an outlier. So, we broke the single day snowfall event record I do believe but correct me if I'm wrong.

7-9" in various locations reported. Possibly more but idk official data yet. It's 4:30 here and snow melt was minimum, there is still ice/snow chunks on roads.

You think it'll be safe to drive tomorrow from Beaumont to Liberty at 5am? I take hwy 90 and I drive a rear wheel drive sport sedan with low profile performance tires. It's currently parked in the garage. Here's how we are sitting going into tonight's/ tomorrows extreme cold.

capNstorms no! 5 am you’re definitely going to have black ice on the roads with temps in the upper teens likely, if possible wait till mid morning to get out, but if you can’t, then take it really slowly oit there

Well, you never say never when it comes to mother nature, but considering the length of time you had to go to get this level of accumulating snow, I wouldn't bet on it. Probably best way to put it. Glad to see you changed your mind about the snow once you got it though. Fun for us folks in the south who aren't used to seeing it (especially when it's manageable).

Galveston still has snow cover, watching news, but they likely had more snow.
